You are in prison. They decide to give you a chance to get free. There are 2 guards standing in front of 2 doors. One door leeds to freedom, the other to death by electric chair. One of the guards always tells the truth, the other always lies. You don't know which door is which or which guard is which. You can ask only one guard one question and he can only answer yes or no. What do you ask the guard?

You know we've had a similar one to this about which direction to go... for the life of me, I can't remember how it worked out! Aaaaaaaggggghhhhh!!!! Senility is a terrible thing! {toothy}
Ok, so I'll just work on this one!
umm...
*thinking*
*thinking*
AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
I'll be back dang it!

OK, I guess I will take a stab at this....
(deep breath)
I would ask the first guard:
Would he (meaning the other guard (the second), not the first guard) tell me that this door leads to freedom?
If the answer was Yes, I would know that the other door (the door that the second one is in front of)leads to freedom and this door(the door the first one is in front of) leads to the chair.
The first one would then be the liar, and the 2nd the truth-teller.
If the first one said but he(meaning the 2nd) could be telling the truth...but then he wouldn't be, so if the 1st guard tells me yes, then I know the answer is no....
If the first proclaims his honesty, then the 2nd would be lying...so if the 1st tells me yes, then I know the answer would still be no...
Oh boy, I hope I got that down correctly. It's hard to explain...and I must admit, I am confused in trying to get in down in a non-confusing way.
How did I do{?}I'm afraid that this is the best that I can do.....:8|

You got the question right, ubelievable! It took me ages to get it... :)
But there's something else to it, what do you do after asking the question and getting the answer? It's also part of the riddle, but you're really close! {toothy}

Zephyrus, how can there be a second part to the puzzle when you only asked one question?
Oraganally posted by Zephyrus
"...You can ask only one guard one question and he can only answer yes or no. What do you ask the guard?"
I don't understand what your looking for.
If this were me, I would open the second door and walk through after the questioning.
I do have to admit, this riddle was a great brain stumper. :)

Well, what I meant to say was what should you do after asking the question and getting the answer? Which door should you pick...etc.

Here's a good one! :)
I can travel from there to here by disappearing,
and here to there by reappearing.
What am I ?

Ten thousand horses can't pull it strait.

I think I have the answer... but not sure if it's my own {einstein} -ability *scoff* or if it's because I've seen it before... so I'll wait on this one. {dizzy}

If someone doesn't start guessing soon, don't think I'll be able to contain this knowledge without my head exploding!!! {toothy}
Here it is again:
As crooked as a rainbow;
Slick as a plate,
Ten thousand horses can't pull it strait
I don't have a clue. The horizon maybe? Didn't think so...

*head explodes*
AAAgh! I can't stand it! {toothy}
I do believe the answer is "River".
The riddle:
"As crooked as a rainbow;
Slick as a plate,
Ten thousand horses can't pull it strait".
At least I'm thinking it was, because of the spelling of "strait".

So, Im sure that you have the world's largest headache, I mean, after your head exploded im sure your in quite a bit of pain, hehe... {toothy}. Yup, your right, it was a river.
Now try this one.
It is in the rock, but it is not in the stone;
It is in the marrow; but it is not in the bone;
It is in the banister, but it is but not in the bed;
It is not in the living, nor yet in the dead.

Well actually, when you have that little up there it's amazingly painless! {toothy} hee hee!
{grblob} Oooh I think I've got the answer! And this time I KNOW it isn't one I've seen before!
Is it the letter "R"? {grblob}
DkTahg

Here's a hard one. {eek}
There is a word, with two synonyms (two words with the same meaning as the original word)
yet the synonyms are antonyms (opposite meanings) of each other.
What word is it?
Hint: The word begins with C.
jamesglewisf
02-10-2001, 03:31 PM
Cut
Synonym Cleave
Synonym Split
Or
Cleave
Synonym Split
Synonym Adhere
Cleave can mean "to separate into distinct parts and especially into groups having divergent views." It can also mean "to adhere firmly and closely or loyally and unwaveringly."
blinc
02-10-2001, 10:10 PM
Yes, it was cleave! Geesh, ok... no more hints for Jim! The rest of us can read them, but not you Jim! *thinks* hmmmm.... maybe we should add KatCo and DkTahg to that list! They're awfully smart... Debby too... ok, dang it - only us slow people can read the hints from now on - the rest of ya's just quit reading them thar hints! {toothy}
What hints? Am I missing something?
I'm too slow to even pick up on the hints! ;)

It kindles like a flame
but it is not flame.
At times it is a frenzy.
It is fever, force, passion!
Inertia makes it flag.
If you lose heart or die it grows cold,
but dream of conquest and it flares up.
Its voice you heed in trepidation,
it glows like the setting sun!

I'll go with TTP's "Desire". But adding a second guess of "Ambition". Think TTP got it though, with Desire?
KatCo
02-13-2001, 01:33 PM
No, sorry....although those would fit, but that's not the answer that's given so....
Here's a hint: If you loose heart or "die" it grows cold
and
It's the color of the setting sun.
That should do it I think....;)

02-13-2001, 01:36 PM

Oooh, that sounds like an invitation if I ever heard one! {toothy}
Here ya go: A sharpshooter hung up his hat and put on a blindfold. He then walked 200 yards away, turned around, three times and then shot a bullet through his hat. The blindfold was a perfectly good one, completely blocking the man's vision.
How did he manage this feat?
Rhonda

I know I know (I think??) He hung his hat on the end of his rifle. {frog}
