CNN (http://www.cnn.com/) is reporting that a US Navy ship off the coast of Yemen in the Arabian Peninsula was rammed by a rubber raft full of explosives. Four servicemen were killed. The ship was in port for refueling. The explosion blew a 20x40 foot hole in the ship.
This is a sad day for those families.

Very sad, indeed.
Such an incident as this reminds of me of Reagan's "Star Wars" plan...we need a defense. The threat of our striking back is not enough. If Sadaam goes nuts and decides he doesn't mind dying, he can take a few major U.S. Cities down before we fire back and stop the threat...which means you only need one wacko ready to die, and one of our cities, if not more, will lie in ruins.
We need something other than missles to fire back with...

Ugh...keeps rising.
My step-grandfather is a former Naval Officer...and he's furious over this. He thinks the ship should have been better equipped to handle such a thing, or something along those lines.

Hmmmmm... its downright scary to think of how easy to do this it is... anyone with a bunch of explosives and a boat could do it, really. :(

WVEC, WTKR AND WAVYTV-10 are all stations out of the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. (Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, etc.) They are our local channels here as well. (We live 1/2 mile over the Va/Nc border, so those channels are what we get for local channels).
There was funeral coverage and stories all day, one day on the local channels - my heart just broke for one mother in particular. Her sons death seemed to hit her all of a sudden, at his funeral. It had me in tears, hearing her anguished cries.
This whole thing just hurts our hearts so.

upto 20 dead, and the yemen government doesnt even allow the us to question suspects, and only gives them "edited" versions of their own investigations, nor does it allow any fbi etc agents into yemen. And yet the us supports them.
They still claim that yemen is beign cooperative publicly, when will uncle sam open his eyes?
Yeah, it was sad indeed. At least they have a few people in custody now.
Oh and TWT, don't worry about Iraq launching missles against us. :) Their missles can only travel 90 miles or so.

Did you hear how the suspects, if convicted and given the death penalty, would be shot by a firing squad?
