Another spinoff of Debby's thread, "Getting to know each other", and yet another question that was asked, that it would be wonderful to hear other responses to. :)
Austruck asked this question:
What are you doing nowadays that you never pictured yourself doing when you were a kid?
Debby responded:
A: Playing on the computer, of course... and also working in a factory...I guess I always thought I'd make more out of my life.

I'm with Debby... the thought of being on a personal computer, when I was young... well, it was just not even a possibility. There were computers, but they were these huge things and worked on information being input and then output the punchcards readouts, etc. Always thought that only geniuses would ever be able to understand computers. Yet, here we are today with computers small enough you can carry them around with ya and soon to come "wearable" computers. It's just amazing to me how far this has come in the last 20 or so years. I never saw myself sitting down and being able to actually operate a computer! :)

So true! I remember my mom's boyfriend having a "computer" in the 70's. You had to hook it up to the telephone & dial in to the university. I think it let me play some archaic form of blackjack but I thought it was amazing.
Then Pong came along & really blew my mind! Playing a game on the t.v.?? Woweeee!
My kids don't have a clue!

The computer thing gets me too, when I was in school it seemed that only the rich kids had them, cuz they were the only ones that could afford them, It semed like such a luxury to me then, now it's almost a neccesity to have one!
I also never pictured myself having children, I said I wasn't going to have kids! Now I'm working on my third!

I'm not very old (21), but I can honestly say that I never pictured myself being with a chick. I've never been a big fan of dating and long-term relationships (despite the fact that I still did it..) and I can't say that I ever pictured myself head-over-heels in love at the age I am...
And I know it's love. Without a doubt. When I'm with this girl, I am totally at ease. I realized it this one day when NOTHING went my way. Seriously, everything bad that can happen to a guy happend to me, but none of it bothered me because I was with her. I was totally calm. Not only that, but stuff that was awkward with former girlfriends, stuff that generally led me to apprehensiveness about the seriousness of the relationship, that stuff isn't bothering me.
I used to talk so much smack about my friends who were totally whooped over their girlfriends. And now look at me. Never thought it could ever happen...
God, I sound like a wuss.

I never saw myself adopting 4 kids. I somehow always saw myself with a bunch of kids around the house and yard, but figured it would be in a neighborhood with lots of families. But 4 kids in less than 6 months? Never.
I also never imagined life without my Mom. She died last summer and there sure is a void. I knew she'd go someday, but you are never really ready for it.

Funny you should ask, I was thinking about this just recently!
When I was in eigth grade, I was almost failing Biology and I remember boasting loudly to everyone "If I ever study Biology at university, SHOOT ME!" Well, as it turns out, I'm studying Medical Science with a Genetic Engineering major and plenty of Biology and bio-related subjects!!
Which goes to say, never say something twice because it might just come true!!

Wow Zephyrus! I'm truly impressed. That's quite a goal you're working on. Good luck! :)

Quite frankly, I never saw myself enjoying vegetables. I mean, I did like corn and beets a bit. But the green stuff? Forget it.
Now I love it. I even like brussel sprouts but can't eat them because they stink up the house and my wife wants to hurl.
I just couldn't have imagined that I would change my ways after swearing off anything from the cabbage family. :)

Never thought the 3 main couples we ran around with during Hub's Navy years would all still be married after 33 years. Is that unheard of or what? Never dreamed in the 60's that we'd still be getting together on a regular basis either . . . meeting in Florida this year!

I also have to go along with the computer thing, my friend had on as a kid but that was only because her father got it from work so he could work at home for awhile. I also never saw myself as a mom, I always said that I would never get married or have kids, I have three and run a day care, a far cry from being the vet that I wanted to be.
