Hey girls,
Have any of you found some good recipe sites? Or do you have any good recipes to share with all of us? With Thanksgiving coming and relatives gathering together for 5 days I could use some new ones.
Here is one I like:
http://www.grannyskitchen.com/
Hope you enjoy. I'll post more later. Waiting to hear what you have to offer.
Thanks in advance
Hi IHS,
Can we call u in another name other than your user name? It's a bit long to type:)
I have a great recipe but it's not very festive. It is however the easiest thing to make, it's very healthy and I still haven't met anyone who doesn't like it.
I make it every time that someone feels like a hot meal and I don't have time to cook anything fancy.
the ingredients are also versatile. The only thing u must have is onion flavored soup powder.
Here goes -
Take frozen vegetables (any kind u have - preferably not leafy)
take any of the following (some or even all) - cooked beans, lentils, peas whatever...
Put everything in a large pan and cover with water. Add several spoons of the sopu powder and mix (even when some of the stuff is frozen).
After it's boiled and all the ingredients are cooked, you add something to soak the water up. You can use pasta, rice or anything else that absorbes water.
You cook untill what you've added is cooked and most of the water have absorbed (not all). and voila!
It's the easiest dish in the world - just put everything together and cook. Everybody loves it. It's hot and filling and it changes from time to time, according to what you happen to have in your kitchen.
Enjoy!

Somebody left the door open, and I snuck in. Be sure to check out the Food section at FindaLink.net (http://findalink.net/links). Lots of the sites there have recipes.
Also check out MarthaStewart.com (http://www.marthastewart.com). My wife has made several recipes that she found there. They weren't too difficult, and they tasted good.

Anat,
Thanks for the recipe, it sounds alot like the good ole' fashion vegetable soup. With the weather hopefully getting colder down here in Texas soon that will be a good recipe to make. I love this time of year my husband and I call it Chili weather.
Also my name is Cathie Jo, but even shorter than that is what most call me CJ. So either of those will do.
By the way where are you located? I noticed you said your boyfriend was at an internet cafe. I have only seen those on TV and figured you must be from a bigger city. Our town is so small we just got a Wal-Mart not too long ago. LOL.
CJ
Hi CJ,
Nice name! I like it.
About the recipe - it is very similar to a vegetable soup, but it's thicker. You can eat it with a fork. Also, you can chuck in all sorts od stuff like rice, pasta etc.
I'm from Israel and till tomorow my boyfriend in in Nepal. At long last (well after 2 and a half weeks trekking in the Himalayas), he's coming back. He's flying to India tomorow and from there to Ethiopia and finally back home to Israel.
Interesting subject, food that is.
I come from a half Polish half Tunisian famlily so we have all sorts of interesting dishes. North African cuisine beats the Polish easily though :)!
I'll look up some recipes for you.

Israel, Wow I was just figuring you lived outside of Texas.LOL. Isn't this internet the most incredible thing. Who would have ever thought I would one day be able to talk with someone from a different country?
I can feel your anticipation in the return of your loved one. I would imagine we won't be seeing you posting as often for a little while :)
I need to at Thanksgiving get some recipes to put on here from my cousins wife. She is from the Ukraine and they have some wonderful dishes also.
I noticed that you are building a site for cat lovers. That subject touches my heart. I have a precious girl cat, Tosha, who is my baby since my girls are grown. She is spoiled rotten. She has my husband and myself running around at her beck and call doing her bidding. I think she has the 6th sense though. She is sitting up here just glaring at me like she knows I'm writing about her :)
I also will be posting some more site probably tomorrow morning when everyone is at school and work and I have the house to myself.
Great talking with you,
CJ

Hi CJ,
I'm happy to say that it's actually cool and rainy here these days. I will be looking for some winter dishes soon. I don't have a lot of time to cook - I like the kind of stews where you put everything in the pot and let it all simmer away for hours. There's an excellent baked beans traditional Jewish dish that is perfect for the winter. I'll look up the recipe and post it here.
I'd love to see you at TheCatSite.com forums. The site is not launched yet but it's getting along just fine. I really hope to get it going within a week or so - to catch the Christmas shopping in November and December.
I plan to have a "cat of the week" on the opening page (hopefull turning it to "cat of the day" some time). O'd be honored to put Tosha's photo there. If you have a scanned photo, please send it over to my e-mail -
Anne@thecatsite.com
Anne is the English version of my name and I'll probably go by that in TCS.
Thanks!
Anat
That's the name of the dish I made yesterday. It's a traditional Arab dish and is very nice for winter. It's another one of my "stews".
It's basically some fried onions (1-2) mixed with lentils (not the red ones). You cover with water and cook for 40 minutes or so. After the lentils are relatively cooked, you add more water and some rice (white rice). cook everything until it's soft and almost all the water is absorbed. Then you leave the lid on for another 10-15 minutes and let the dish set (with the heat/fire turned off). The traditional seasoning is made of cumin and some other exotic spices. I just put into it the magical secret ingredient of onion soup powder...
It's extermely filling and very tasty. It comes out all brown and homey - lovely.

I've found a few really nice sites for desserts. I love to cook desserts for family get togethers. :) I'll have to get them and post them in here!
Does anyone happen to have a recipe for a really nice melt in your mouth, shortbread cookie?

Aha! I finally found them. These sites are really pretty big... one has over 70,000 recipes. One (the homecooking site) has over a 1,000 weight watchers recipes. They have lots of wonderful sounding recipes. Although I STILL haven't found a great shortbread cookie recipe.... Arrgh!
Here they are:

I don't think this one is listed. It is http://www.foodtv.com
It comes from the Food Network. I usually spend my weekends flipping from the sports, for hubby, to cooking, for both of us:)
