I noticed that the forums have the marriedadults.net domain while the site itself is actually ay marriedadults.com.

Any particular reason for this one? How do you connect between the two? Are they on different servers? different hosts?

I'm looking into similar options right now, so I'd appreciate any tips you might have.

Thanks!

I was just about this to answer this, and my 3-year-old asked for some attention. I'll get back to you.

Both URL's are hosted by Hosting Matters (http://www.hostmatters.com) on the same server. The way you connect between the two is hyperlinks. They have a similar look and feel, so most people probably don't even notice the URL change.

The reasoning behind two URLs is pretty silly really. I'm one of those webmasters that uses MS Frontpage 2000 as my page editor. It allows me to preview the code I write, and it has other features I like.

Anyhow, I thought that I couldn't have a MySQL database on a site that had FP extensions installed. MarriedAdults.com has been around a couple of years. I reserved MarriedAdults.net after I decided to use vBulletin as my forum software. vBulletin uses MySQL for its database. Afterwards, I found out that you could have both MySQL and FP extensions installed at the same time. Duh.

I decided to go ahead and have them separate so that I could analyze the traffic separately. It also gets me more links at search engines because they are distinct URLs.

Just wanted to tell you that I'm also doing something similar for TCS. I registered thecatsite.com and that's where I put my ASP based site. It's already online (still a demo/beta version - not "open to the general public" :)) so you can have a look.

I used the exact same design for both site and they're supposed to look like you're in the same site. I had to do it because I needed both a UNIX server (for the Vbulletin) and NT (for the ASP).
