Ok, I KNOW there was a thread somewhere here before about suggestions... wasn't there? Have I gone off my rocker? {toothy} Well, I can't find it... so I'll start this one.

How about tiny writing? A smaller font size? For when we feel like being mischevious?
Tape! We need more tape

I was wondering about those as well, and found that they all work except the tiny. :(

Check out the vB code. I added <t> and </t> (really use []) for tiny text.

This is a sample.

Alright! I love the tiny writing option, thank you! :)
Maybe we'll have to rethink those SUFBAMT plans now...

Where did I see that SUFBAMT before???? Hmmmmm.....

Sneak up...and something or another??? Off I go to find my secret decoder ring (wouldn't you know the only part I would remember is the 'sneaky' part) ???? What does THAT tell you?

That you're evil*cough* wonderfully clever! Just like the rest of us SUFBAMT plotters!

Anyone to the floor to keep them from getting away!

Oooh Ntexas... *points* Look over there!

Hee hee hee... you're not getting away now! {toothy}

That explains it! I've been wondering why I was unable to walk away from this computer! I didn't know I'd been SUFBAMT'd! Shoulda knowed ... that's what happens when you stand still for two seconds too long in one place!

I'm not going anywhere yet ... just reading as fast as I can!

DIdn't really realize what a pain the capitalizing codes were until recently *rolleyes*... could there be a way to maybe use brackets on all codes instead of the { } things? It just saves having to capitalize { then uncapitalize to type in the say, "toothy" then capitalize again for the }. Just a little thing, but one that has been rather irritating for us one handed bandits!

jamesglewisf
11-18-2000, 11:52 PM
The problem with changing them now is that it will mess up all of the ones already used in the forum. Have you tried hitting both the shift and the bracket keys at the same time? They aren't that far apart on the keyboard.

blinc
11-19-2000, 03:48 PM
OOHHHH! I didn't realize it would do that. No problem! I tried that hitting the keys at the same time and ya know... it works! Dur!

How about, since the Holidays are here/coming, some seasonal x-massy, new-years eve type smilies?

Like a santa, reindeer, present, mug of cocoa, x-mas tree, ornaments.... and for NYE, a glass of champagne, a clock... just a few Ideas.

You can maybe change them as the holiday seasons change.

I haven't seen any holiday smilies, except for Halloween. I'll keep an eye out for them though.

OH Hooray!
I was wondering about some christmas smilies also.
I hope Jim finds some soon.

I was also thinking about having a birthday smilie....what do you think?
I have seen a few posts since I have been here, about ppl's birthdays...but no bday smilie...{bawling}

Tell me about a site where you've seen them, and I'll ask if I can use them.

I haven't seen any Christmas smilies anywhere yet...but this list of smilies has one called 'girlparty'....with birthday party hat on and stuff. I also LOVE the dorky one with the buck teeth...He's adorable!
this list is from Alien Soup....a forum I used to belong to before we found this wonderful place.
Hope you find something you like!

Jim, I posted this on a new thread in the woman's section....but I obviously need to ask you. I thought it would be nice, for those of us who are interested in doing so, to have a pictures section, at the top of the forums to click on, like we do in the Chins & Quills forums, (although there it is mostly for your chins and quills pics...lol) But to have a section like that for those of us who would love to put a face with the many new friends we have made on here, and maybe their better halfs with them also, and/or their kids. I got a really good response to I think, when I posted the thread in the womens section....people seemed to think that was a good idea. Just a suggestion. If you do decide to do it, we could e-mail you our pics, then you could put them in the picture section under our name. And if only a few of us wanted to do it, well, maybe more would join in later. I feel so close to several of you, and would love to put a face with my friends. :) Just an idea.

Karenluvs6
12-03-2000, 12:28 PM
I love the idea for the pictures Deb...I would do it.

Jim,
I have a suggestion.
How about a recipe forum?
I have millions and millions of recipes to share, and I know that if there was a forum just for that, a lot of the women, if not all of them, would post there all the time.
I think it is a great idea, and I would like you to consider it. Please. We could call it, "What's Cooking?"

Moe
12-03-2000, 07:58 PM
Do you think that we could have a History forum?

jamesglewisf
12-03-2000, 11:02 PM
Moe,

Thanks for the suggestion.

Could you start some threads about History in "Anything Goes," and let's see how they do? I want to see how much interest there will be.

It may seem like I just started the "What's Cooking?" forum without much thought, but that one has come up before. It is also another very popular forum on another board called AlienSoup. Finally, based upon past perforumance, Karenluvs6 will fill that one up with new threads before you can blinc blink.

So let's see how interested people are in history, and then we'll discuss it again.

BTW, Moe, did you get my email? I replied to the question you sent me. Thanks for the interest. I'd love to hear back from you.

Moe

So I guess that's a no, to the pictures section then?

Karenluvs6
12-06-2000, 10:50 AM
I don't think it is a no Deb....I think it just takes longer to develop things like that on the forum, that's all.
He might be checking things out to see if it is possible...something like that maybe.
I do know for sure that Jim isn't ignoring ya or anything like that. Just hold tight there and I'm sure he'll be getting back to ya.

Thanks Karen, I guess I get too anxious for things sometimes...LOL. I can't wait to check out your new recipe thread, which I will be doing soon. :)

James/Jim/Whatever,

Hey, just now I (as an HTML-idiot) went in and tried to make hyperlinks to two places that have something to do with me. (Most people won't have anything to do with me. HA HA HA.)

Anyway, I finally figured it out, but what I did first, based on the vB code instructions, didn't work. At first I had only the "www....." address in the quotation marks, and those links came up when clicked-upon as having http://www.frappydoo.com/forums/... in front of what I had typed in, which of course resulted in that lovely white-screen "Not Found" thing.

When I added the "http://" in front of both URLs, but kept everything else the same, it seemed to work correctly.

But the instructions for that portion don't indicate that you HAVE to put the "http://" first in order to not end up tagged onto the end of a http://www.frappydoo.com URL instead!

Is that clear as mud? Hope so. I'm just proud of myself that I figured it out and didn't have to IM with TWT to figure it out. Although it makes him feel (more) superior when I come begging him for help.... {dunce}

Debby
12-07-2000, 07:27 PM
Yep, that was as clear as mud to me, but then, I am computer illeterate! LOL....I'm sure everyone else understood. :)

Austruck
12-07-2000, 08:38 PM
Yes, but you're frappytastic!

I think I've used that new word a dozen times in the last half a day. Like I needed a new word to latch onto.... :)

But, it's just so dang CUTE!

Debby
12-07-2000, 08:54 PM

Debby

Linda,

I think I fixed the vB code help page. I gave three correct examples and one incorrect example.

Karenluvs6
12-08-2000, 07:45 AM
ya shoulda just left that page alone.....Jim...It worked fine before and now you probably just messed it all up on us...{rolleyes}
You know what they say.....'If it ain't broke....don't fix it'........ya know?
Messing with the pages is like cleaning off my desk! It'll just ruin everything!

Austruck
12-08-2000, 07:50 AM
But Karen, it didn't work, and I tried it several times. He only changed the help page, not the actual code (as far as I know).

I'm sorry if I've caused consternation! I just didn't want people getting that "Not Found" page whenever they clicked on my non-working links in here.

Sorry... :(

Karenluvs6

Well couldn't think of anywhere to place this post... so it's going here. It's not really a suggestion, more like a thank you for not having something that would make us post a suggestion to not have it. erm... yah, that's it. *snork*

What I'm trying to say, is thank you for not having that blasted "Edited by: soandso, 9 times" message on! It's SO embarrassing to have 3 (or more) edits noted in a post. Bad enough when you get it wrong the first time, let alone having to go in more then once to fix a post. {rolleyes} Some boards don't even have a 1 minute time allowance before the edited message goes up. Some give you 5 minutes or so. Just wanted to say thank you for not employing that option! I really appreciate not looking like a doofus, anymore then I already do!! {toothy}

Debby
12-08-2000, 07:38 PM
I totally agree Blinc....I hate that on other forums too...it makes people wonder what you messed up on...lol.

kezzer
12-08-2000, 11:16 PM
Blinc, I totally agree. It is soooooo annoying to see that. I am constantly editing my posts. Always missing a typo here and a typo there,You know, stuff like that. It's so nice not to see under practically all my posts Edited by kezzer at... Thanks Jim! {mm}

jamesglewisf
12-09-2000, 12:11 AM
I really hate the < edited by xxx on yyy > messages too. That's why I don't use them at FrappyDoo! This allows members to edit posts without embarrassment, but it also allows moderators to edit members' posts without embarrassing the members.

One of the least pleasant aspects of moderating is editing someone else's post. I hate doing it when that < edited by > message shows up because it makes members defensive. Then you get into an argument in the forum about whether or not it should have been edited. The silent edit allows the moderator to email a member in private about the change.

Thanks for the positive and specific feedback. It's nice to know when I do something right.

Oggg! {toothy} This is about the 5th time I've gotten a case of the giggles over the {grblob} smiley face. Has anyone else noticed when you are sent back to your post after you submit, then click on the forum jump link at the bottom of the post, when the screen loads the blob kind of freezes... sometimes with an elongated, squished look to it? It looks like it was squished in a book and has a surprised eye-popping look on it's face! Cracks me up everytime!!

jamesglewisf
12-12-2000, 12:29 AM
That's a riot. It does look funny.

Karenluvs6
12-12-2000, 08:33 AM
I like to look at this one {benetton} when you do that...it freezes colors and looks really cool....also this one {headspin}...it freezes backwards sometimes and looks really funny...like it has no face.

Karenluvs6
12-19-2000, 09:17 AM
Jim, I would like you to consider making a new forum...One for all those nice, inspirational stories...all the poetry...quotes...even favorite uplifting scriptures and such.

what do you all think?

I post a lot of this stuff and I always have to put it under Anything Goes....It is the only place it fits and it doesn't even look like it fits there.
I do believe it would be successful.

blinc
12-19-2000, 03:18 PM
That's a good point Karen. There are stories and such that don't really fit anywhere else. I know we have at least one very good poet on the forum. Maybe we could add something to cover this in an already existing forum? If not, then creating a new forum sure sounds like something to discuss. :)

Karenluvs6
12-19-2000, 04:46 PM
thanx Blinc......I think it is a good idea, all around. For everyone I mean. Everyone in the forum has had stories or poetry that they would like to post....but there is only one place where they kind of fit....and that's Anything Goes.....which already has a zillion posts.
Well, it is something to think about.

CommunistPanda

I've got one idea for improvement...though it may have already been suggested...and that's to change the member titles. "New Member" is kinda bland, don't ya think? It'd be nice to have...well...I can't think of anything off the top of my head...but something a little more interesting.

jamesglewisf

jamesglewisf
12-21-2000, 05:44 PM
Maybe Frappy+Something, such as:

NeoFrappyphyte
FrappySlacker
FrappyAddict
Frappyactive
HyperFrappyActive
Frappyatic
FrappyZealot
FrappyLover
Frappyicianado or Frappyafficianado
EnFrappythusiast or Frappythusiast
Frappynut
Frappylicious

There's only one idea I've had so far - clowns. I know it's corny...but I'm trying to tie it in with 'FrappyDoo' somehow!

blinc
12-21-2000, 08:03 PM
Ooh, I like some of these ideas popping up. Yes, we do need some kind of theme... something fun and interesting! Funny you said that about the clowns CP, for some reason I keep thinking of a circus when I see the name in colors up there. But I don't see "the bearded lady" as a good member name! {toothy}

I like these new one's that have been suggested:

dabbler
NeoFrappyphyte (love this one)
FrappySlacker (yeah, all you guys under 25 posts!) hee hee
HyperFrappyActive
Frappyicianado or Frappyafficianado (not sure, could ya spell it like it would be pronounced?)
Frappylicious

CommunistPanda
12-21-2000, 08:15 PM
Well, how about some sort of circus theme then?
Like...hmmm...you could then have elephants, clowns, admins could be ringmasters...

blinc
12-21-2000, 08:23 PM
Oh gosh, this is going to sound bad, but I really dislike circuses. aaack! Don't whap me for those of you that like them. I just always feel so sorry for the animals penned up in those tiny cages and trailers. Maybe we can keep brainstorming, yes? Definitely on the right track.. something, colorful, fun... yep we'll get it!

CommunistPanda
12-21-2000, 08:34 PM
Hmm...okay...another corny idea but...
what about art utensils...
eg. start with crayon...
pencil...
texta...
paintbrush...etc

Actually, that sucks really bad...but oh well.

blinc
12-21-2000, 08:40 PM
Hey, if we don't try, we'll never get anywhere, yah? At least by posting the ideas it may lead to a spark in someone elses imagination or in your own, that will lead to the theme we all fall in love with. Got to give you credit for at least trying CP! :)

Keep 'em coming, at least you're brainstorming up ideas! I'm stuck over here going in circles and coming up with zilch.
