So theyeti tried to go to msn.com today, but instead his old and bungled computer redirected him to one of those sites that look like search engines but really just screw things up a lot. So then a little while later an internet explorer window pops up (I was using earthlink, although i don't know why, it's a pain in the backside) with that same website, and now there's a bar for some porno site underneath the address bar.
So now i went into windows explorer to try and delete the stuff, and I found 2 new things Program Files: something called "Bargain Buddy" and something called "ISTsrc" and "ISTbar" (which is the porno thing). I tried to delete the IST stuff, but it says it's in use and I can't. {confused} I got the "Bargain Buddy" stuff to go to the recycling bin, but then it wouldn't delete from there... and now I can't find it anywhere - it's not in the recycling bin or in Program Files. But when I hit Ctrl-Alt-Del to see the list of programs that are running, it's still there.

I think there might be more junk on my computer, because there's some folders that I can't remember if it was there before or not (my dad's put a lot of weird stuff onto the hard drive, it's not very good for it, but he won't listen to me....). Is there anything I can do to try and delete this stuff, or am I stuck with it just sitting there and taking up space (and praying that's all it does)? I did a full virus scan, which didn't find anything.

Grimey had a good suggestion in another thread: Ad Aware

Thank you thank you thank you! :) I think I got most of it, after supper I'll download Ad-Aware.

This isn't really related, but apparently my dad was on the computer this afternoon and found and bunch of adult stuff listed in the favorites... so somehow (and i don't really understand this part in his story) he goes from deleting those to having deleted all my favorites... permenantly. Yeah. REAL SUBTLE. (And I had a LOT of stuff.)

Maybe I should tell him to go to safersite.com and see his reaction - "How the #$%& did all these bugs gets onto my monitor?!"

Theyeti, we had one of these programs that actually filled your favorites with links to porn and gambling sites. It also covered the desktop with them.
