What are your favorite movies? Who do you prefer to watch them with? Do you prefer to view them at home or in the theater?

Comedy?
Horror?
Drama?
Documentary?
Romantic??

Let's hear em!

I love anything with Meg Ryan. I loved The Green Mile. I love sappy stories, comedies and horror.

We don't really go to the movies, we wait for them to come out on tape. My husband loves to buy DVD's. I love to buy pre-viewed movies. I can get them for as little as it cost to rent them then we can bring them with us in the trailer when we camp. I think we have over 500 movies. YIKES!!!!

Ya forgot SCI-FI Movies? {alien} I'm a huge Sci-Fi fan... those are my favorite movies of all. A close second is horror movies... oooh, love a good thriller. I haven't seen "The Hollow Man" yet - but it looked good and boogley on the previews.. anyone seen it?

I prefer to watch them with the hubby and the dogs. The cats aren't really into them all that much.

Definitely would rather watch them at home!

sorry about that Blinc!
how could I have forgotten?

I like to watch movies that make me cry...{bawling} Sometimes, if I'm lucky, I can catch hubby sheddin' tear or two! ssshhhhh! don't tell him I told ya!
My favorite movie is 'The Shawshank Redemption'...I'm a nut for any Morgan Freeman movie.
And do you know, he was right here in Center City Philadelphia two or three days ago. He was visiting a school, reading stories to children.

I prefer to watch at home too...going to the movies is just so darned expensive anymore.

blinc, if you like scary ones have you seen "Stirs of Echos" with Kevin Bacon?

It had a few spots that actually the girls and I screamed. Its hard to do that anymore since we are ammuned to the gore.

This one is not really so much blood and gut kinda movie. It is more along the line of an Alfred Hitchcock. Those I love.

I am not a thriller fan, but we rented "Frequency" last night with Dennis Quaid. I skipped the really tense parts, but it was sort of mesmerizing. VERY weird. A young man contacts his dead father by ham radio and helps him avoid death in his job as a firefighter. But of course this causes unintended consequences and they have to correct another change they make. It had strong family values and was sweet in many ways but make no mistake it was also a very scary movie. Christie

Karen, if you like watching movies that will make you cry, try renting The Patriot, with Mel Gibson....I LOVED this movie, but it is a real tear jerker at times.

I forgot to mention I also love the shawshank redemption, Ive seen it like 10 times, and still enjoy it!! One of my all time favorites was Fried Green Tomatoes, and I also loved City of Angels, with Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage.

The absolutely saddest movie I have ever seen was "Table For Five" with Jon Voight (sp?). It was part of a double-header sneak preview. They did a survey afterward and one of the questions they asked was, "Is the movie too sad?"

In_His_Shadow
11-04-2000, 09:15 AM
Oh my gosh if ya'll haven't seen The Patriot you have to go rent it. We watched it last night and it was so moving. Especially with the election coming up it got me to thinking about how hard people fought for our freedom and at such a young age. Given those same circumstances I wonder if our kids today would be that loyal for our country. Hmmm.....

I just bought "The Patriot" on DVD. I haven't had a chance to watch it. After losing a baby, my wife doesn't do too well with movies where children are killed. So I'll have to wait till I'm alone for that one.

Thanks Debby.....I'll have to go get it. I don't really care too much for Mel Gibson...his movies all seem the same. I'll check it out though.

Frequency...just saw it two nights ago...ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!! I loved it.

Meg Ryan is a good actress..I liked her in Hanging Up. That was a sad movie too...{bawling}
and Nicholas Cage...? He has always been a fav of mine too. I didn't care much for that one where he played an ambulance driver. I only watched about 30 minutes of it, I hated it!

I liked Stir Of Echoes too....that was a good thriller. They don't make too many of those these days.

Table For Five...?
I've never heard of that one...What section would I look in to find it?

I was going to rent 'A Perfect Storm'...but I heard it was terrible.
Anyone seen it?

We watched Mission to Mars last night. It was pretty tense for awhile and we took a break which I considered not returning from. But then all that tension sort of fizzled out in an anticlimactic ending. It made me miss the scary parts!!! Christie

I liked "A Perfect Storm."

"Table for Five" is a drama. It has Jon Voight, Richard Crenna, and Kevin Costner, among others.

It is from 1983. The director has directed some episodes of "The X Files" and "Thirtysomething."

Charlies Angels ~
A good flick for those who enjoyed the original series as well as for those younger people wanting some intense fight scenes very similar to that of the Matrix.

I loved the Perfect Storm. But I also love weather related anything. I loved Twister just because it's about tornadoes, which I am incredibly fascinated with. Some of my favorite movies include The Full Monty, Armageddon, The Wedding Singer, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, A Night at The Roxbury, Bed of Roses, Flatliners, The Mummy. That's just to name a few. I like a little of everything, just about!

Karenluvs6
11-06-2000, 04:30 PM
OMG Kezzer.....you liked 'Night At the Roxbury' too?!!?
So did I.....geesh, that movie was soooooo funny!
those guys are too much.

I think you and I are the only ones....everyone I know said it was so incredibly stupid.

How about the Waterboy?
I like this one a lot too.

I liked the Waterboy Too!! Actually I love Adam Sandler, he's hilarious!!

Kezzer, you and my daughter would get along great. She is in her last year of meteorology and will be tornado chasing for 6 months of the year (during tornado seasons) then work in a lab the other 6 months. I can't imagine were she got this from but, she has been fasinated with weather since she was a small girl.

If you like tear jerkers I watch one this weekend call "Here On Earth" I think was the name. Oh my, it was just like Love Story.

Also we watched "Where The Heart Is" that was a cute girlie movie.

Ah Kezzer to you do that to. We buy previewed tapes all the time to put in our travel trailer. Blockbuster will have $2 and $4 discounts all the time. Alot of time I can actually buy the movie for less than it cost to rent it.

Kezzer, I have read "where the heart is" and wondered if the movie would be as good as the book, now I will have to definately check it out!! Also...I too loved "night at the roxbury" it is also one of my husbands favorites, we always got such a kick out of those guys on SNL and the movie was even funnier!! And Waterboy was a hoot!!!!!! One of my favorite comedies that I never tire of watching (I even bought it) is "kingpin" with woody harrelson.......how hilarious!!!!!!! ( it also has Randy Quaid and Bill Murray in it)

I don't really have a favorite movie...just favorite actors .
Tom Hanks, John Travolta, Robin Williams, Jack Nicholson, Nicholas Cage, Samuel Jackson,....I could go on but I think you get my point. I don't think it's the movie as much as the actors that make the movie. Storyline and plot help too.

Except he did like the Nutty Professor movies, part one and two, because there was lots of farting involved...LOL.

Nutty Professor was too nasty for me. I got tired of it after awhile.

I'll tell you about one I liked--"Return to Me." If you like romantic comedies, it is a keeper.

I tried to buy "Return to Me" on DVD tonight, and both stores were sold out of their copies already.

Who is in "Return to Me" and what is it about? I don't think I have heard of it.

jamesglewisf
11-22-2000, 11:12 PM
David Duchovny and Minnie Driver. His wife dies, and she get's his wife's heart in a transplant. They meet by chance and fall in love.

It also has Carroll O'Connor, Robert Loggia, James Belushi, Joely Richardson, David Alan Grier, and Bonnie Hunt.

I really like comedies for the most-part. I like just about anything with Bill Murray in it. He's one of the greatest comedians I've seen.

One of my favorite Bill Murray movies is "The Man Who Knew Too Little." I watch it regularly.

jamesglewisf

Oh. Gosh. How could I forget those two. Groundhog Day is one of my all-time favorites. I could just watch it over, and over, and over, and over, and over. LOL!

I'm trying to wean myself off What About Bob?. Taking baby steps.

Debby

James, that's the guy from the x-files isn't it? That movie sounds so romantic! (Return to Me) Wonder why I haven't heard of it. Is it only in limited release? So basically, his wife dies, and this other woman gets her heart in a transplant and he meets her accidentally and falls in love? So it's kind of like the "heart" is really the whole key to true love...how romantic!!!! (although not really very beleivable....LOL) ;) can't wait to see that one, it sounds great!

kezzer
11-23-2000, 11:37 PM
We rented Chicken Run this week. That was a pretty cute movie!
What About Bob!! That was such a funny movie.

jamesglewisf
11-24-2000, 12:05 AM
I don't know if it was limited release or not. I don't think so. Of course, in Dallas, we get just about everything. I bought the DVD at Best Buy, so the DVD is not on limited release.

Debby

That's another one I really want to see!!! It looks great!!! But I will probably have to wait till it comes out on video, as my hubby hates romantic movies, and I don't want to go to a romantic movie alone!!! LOL

Saw a great movie last night. It's called, "Hanging Up." I rented it in honor of my stepdaughter's mother who constantly hangs up on us, but that's another story for Rants or whatever. This movie starred Meg Ryan and Walter Matthau as daughter and father, with Diane Keaton and Lisa Kudrow as the two other daughters. It was so funny and sad and seemed pretty real to me. Maybe the fact that Walter Matthau was dying as he played the role of the sick father had something to do with it. Christie

Debby
12-06-2000, 12:52 PM
Iv'e been meaning to check that one out also...I have heard mixed reviews on it...a couple people said it was good, and another said it was awful.

41mama
12-06-2000, 03:07 PM
That's interesting. It's a pretty emotional movie and also deals with intense family themes (the dad shows up at his grandson's 5th birthday party drunk and abusive in a flashback, the mom's abandoned her grown daughters). It was interesting too that several scenes were shot at the Nixon library, and the daughter comments that Nixon reminds her of her dad. But that kind of stuff doesn't hit everybody right. I thought it was a movie for women over 30.

well, this weekend I saw 'Shaft', 'Gone in 60 Seconds' and 'The Perfect Storm'....I loved Shaft!!! I am a little partial to Samuel L. Jackson though. Gone in 60 Seconds was pretty good....I loved the cool cars in that movie!!
The Perfect Storm was pretty good too. It seemed like most of the good parts of that movie were shown on the commercial though.

We also watched gone in 60 seconds this weekend, and I loved it!!! I am a big Nicholas Cage fan anyway, but this movie was great!!! I loved that last car....Ellenor....however you spell it, and I couldn't believe they crushed it!!!!!!!!!! I was more worried about that car than I was the people, but I love classic cars.

Just watched 'The Skulls' for the second time tonight...I'm still just ask confused as I was after the first viewing tonight...
I really like the movie, it keeps you guessing more than others have recently....which is a good thing.
Also there is no nudity, the violence is moderate and I didn't notice a whole dialog full of profanity. PG-13 overall, I think they finally got a rating correct. And at 13 it's a message the kids could use for the better.
