a favorite of mine...some of you may recognize it.
Mirror, Mirror
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Do you have to tell it all?
Where do you get the glaring light,
That make my clothes look too darned tight?
I think I'm fine but I can see,
that you won't cooperate with me;
The way you let the shadows play,
You'd think my hair was getting gray.
What's that, you say? A double chin?
No, that's the way the light comes in;
If you persist in peering so,
You'll confiscate my facial glow.
And then if you're not hanging straight
You'll tell me next I'm gaining weight;
I'm really quite po'd with you,
For giving this distorted view.
I hate you being smug and wise,
look what you're doing to my thighs!
I warn you now, O mirrored wall,
Speaking terms, we're not at all,
If I look like this in my new jeans,
You'll find yourself in smithereens

Karenluvs6 you post some of the greatest stuff!
Unfortunately, I resemble that post{bawling}
Guess no matter who we are, we are probably our own worst critics huh? And the ol' mirror doesn't make it any easier on any of us!
It's hard to be a woman, especially in this day and age when so much emphasis is placed on how a person looks. No wonder our sisters, mothers, and girl-friends are all battling eating disorders in record numbers.
Sorry, I didn't mean to be a downer! We do however need to stand strong together and start sending a better message to our youth regarding this subject.
I had heard that some magazines had tried to use "heavier/healthier" models, but their numbers fell, so they returned right back to using the super skinny ones.
Just a thought, maybe if we all stopped buying the magazines that featured those types it might finally have an inpact.???? Maybe not *sigh*

Oh, thank you KatCo...and I totally agree with you 100%!
My daughter (10) was reading one of those teen magazines the other night, it was an article about shedding those unwanted pounds!!!!!
Did you ever?!?!?!
The girls that read those mags are between 10-18 yrs old! Why on Earth would a child of that age be dieting?
These kids' think that if they don't look like these celebrities...if they are bigger than a medium size branch, they are not good enough...That is utterly ridiculous!
{fire}
My oldest daughter is 12 yrs old...she is very tall! and weighs probably about 90-100 pounds. I'm going with a little extra there because of her height.
She said to me a few weeks back, "Don't you think my thighs are fat?"....I just looked at her....glared at her....she goes, "nevermind....I'll take that as a 'don't be stupid'!"
I said, "you do just that!"
If things keep on the way they are going, our children don't have a chance at normal lives. There's entirely too much criticism out there!

I agree! I don't have a daughter, but it would infuriate me at having that garbage crammed down her throat if I did! Nope, I won't buy or subscribe to magazines that push the skeletal features in women... not going to support that bunch of bull. Hey, maybe I won't make a difference to them overall... but it sure makes me feel better *taps head* in here! :)
In our house, we have one mirror. The medicine cabinet above the sink in the bathroom. Can't see much that way - I like it just fine that way! :) Ignorance is bliss!

I don't subscribe or read any of those magazines, my kids are homeschooled, and my youngest daughter (now 7) STILL has picked up some of this stuff. Keep in mind she's quite thin enough, thank you. Nice and NORMAL looking.
TRUE STORY:
She was around 5. She stood on the bathroom scale and clucked her tongue and said, "How much do I weigh?"
I said, "It says 40 pounds."
She said, "40 POUNDS? 40 POUNDS???"
I said, "Yes, what's wrong?"
She blurted out, "Is it 40 pounds of fat? Or 40 pounds of skinny??"
