From CNNThe morning after Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush admitted he had been arrested in 1976 for driving under the influence, Bush's communications director today blamed Democrats for leaking the information and criticized them for "dirty tricks." The aide, Karen Hughes, referred to a report that Tom Connolly, a Democrat who led an unsuccessful campaign for governor of Maine in 1998, was responsible for leaking to a reporter that Bush was arrested 24 years ago in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Do you think this is going to affect how people vote?
I personally think that since this happened 24 years ago, it is not that relevant for today. Bush long ago openly admitted he had a drinking problem in the past, and he said he took his last drink in 1986.
I think his Dad was the CIA director at the time. It's nice to know that they didn't try to wipe this off his record somehow.
