Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind".
Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean ? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

I actually can't post any funny lines here right now - all mine would be from movies, and once I got started, I would never stop.

Would anyone be interested in seeing a massive post filled with funny movie quotes? I'll post it if there's enough interest. :) It'll be worth the tired fingers.
