Since everyone likes a good brain teaser I have one that I like to ask.
What is Donald Duck's middle name?
Justawoman
11-23-2004, 07:39 AM
I cheated and looked it up on Google. So I won't post it but I will ask my duck loving daughter this question. I liked it.

11-23-2004, 08:55 AM
I've seen this before. His middle name is "Fauntleroy."
Great topic. Keep it going!
Marcos
11-23-2004, 05:18 PM
Right on the nose James. Great job. Not many people know that one.
Ok, that seemed to be too easy. Let's get a little harder.
In what cartoon did he make his first appearance?
For an added bonus question: What was the date of this appearance?
CuriousG
11-24-2004, 08:48 AM
The Wise Little Hen on June 9, 1934
Marcos
11-24-2004, 05:24 PM
Good job CuriousG. That was going way back.
Here's an easy one:
What three Disney characters are considered to be the "Big Three"?
Marcos
11-25-2004, 06:06 PM
Oh come now. No takers? This one is easy. Too easy perhaps?
Justawoman
11-26-2004, 08:16 AM
Hey I didn't have to cheat on this one. I immediately knew it had to be the three from Disneys Three Musketeers. Goofy, Mickey, and Donald.
Marcos
11-27-2004, 07:35 AM
One for all and all for one!! That's it. Score for the lady from Texas.
Here is one that will test your Disney knowledge:
What is the name of the cartoon that Mickey made his first appearance?
Bonus question: What was the date of this appearance?
Justawoman
11-27-2004, 08:14 AM
Was it Steamboat Willy? As for the date I am guessing in the 30's. My husbands Grandfather kept an 8 mm film of an early Mickey in his safe. No telling where it is now of days.
Marcos
11-28-2004, 07:27 AM
Oh, I am sorry. That is not the correct answer. There is another film a little earlier in which Mickey made his debut. Steamboat Willie was the first cartoon that had a totally combined and synchronized sound, music, and dialogue track, and the first to achieve wide commercial success. Many consider this to be Mickey's true debut, but in fact it is not. There is an earlier film in which Mickey and Minnie starred in. As for the date I'll give you a hint: Late 1920's.
Justawoman

I won't cheat. I won't cheat. I won't cheat. Come on someone and know this. It is killin me. *L*

I think that it is time to let the cat (or mouse?) out of the bag.
The name of the movie is "Plane Crazy". It was released May 15, 1928. "Steamboat Willie" was released November 18, 1928.
Here is an easy one: Mickey Mouse wasn't originally his name. There was another name the Walt was going to use but someone thought that it was too pretentious and gave the mouse the name of Mickey.
Who was this person to come up with the most famous mouse name in history?
CuriousG
11-30-2004, 09:34 AM
I actually know this one. Walt's wife suggested the name "Mickey" after he proposed calling him "Mortimer Mouse."
Grimey
11-30-2004, 10:22 AM
Mortimer? That's hilarious.
Marcos
12-01-2004, 05:16 AM
Great job CuriousG. You are correct. And you also answered my next question. Mortimer was Mickey's original name. Fortunately, Walt listened to his better half.
Let's try another.
The third of the Big Three is of course Goofy. But, just like Mickey, he had a different name. When Goofy first debuted, what was his original name?
Justawoman
12-01-2004, 07:44 AM
Dippy Dawg!! Dippy Dawg!!! Dippy Dawg!!
*doing a lil dance around my room and singing some off the wall 70's rock classic hit and feeling much like Snoopy when he gets fed*
jamesglewisf
12-01-2004, 08:37 AM
Man, I was going to finally get one.
Justawoman
12-01-2004, 01:11 PM
Put on your dancing shoes and come celebrate.... I'll share the limelight.
Marcos
12-01-2004, 04:31 PM
And there you have it. Dippy Dawg it is. Good one Justawoman.
Let's go back to Donald Duck for a moment. We all know about his girlfriend Daisy Duck, but she was Donalds second girlfriend. Now, who was Donald's first girlfriend?
Justawoman
12-02-2004, 08:06 AM
You mean he had two???? Shameless of Donald. The only duck for him is Daisy!!! Can't wait to see this answer.
Marcos
12-02-2004, 07:52 PM
Well, it would seem Donald is a bit of a smooth operator. His first girlfriend was named Donna Duck.
Donna Duck is one of Walt's Comic book characters and first appeared in movies in the cartoon "Don Donald" in 1937. She never reappeared in cartoons but became a regular in the comic strips. She was replaced by Daisy Duck in 1940. Some believe that Donna and Daisy are the same character, but this can't be since both appeared as rivals for Donald's affection in a strip published on August 7, 1951. Donna is thought to be Daisy's sister and the mother of April, May, and June Duck which Daisy takes care of since 1953. Donna is presumed to be deceased.:(
Let's go to an easy one.
Early last century, full-length animated feature films where few and far between. Now they have become common-place. There is one film, by Disney of course, that was the first full-length animated feature. What is the title of this film? And when was it released? (You knew I was going to ask that second one)
Justawoman
12-03-2004, 07:52 AM
Would that be Snow White?? Wasn't that around 1935 or so??? It is still a favorite around our house with my daughters. We even went out and bought the characters. I don't care much for the spin offs from the animated flick. The one with real people in it is silly beyond belief.
Marcos
12-03-2004, 10:13 AM
Ah, yes. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the correct answer. And Alec you are correct with the year. It was indeed 1937. December 21, 1937 to exact. Walt actually had to mortgage his own house to pay for the film's production. Talk about believing in what you do.
As we all know, Disney uses animals quite extensively throughout his movies. Movies like Robin Hood even used anthropomorphized animals. But, which movie was the first to feature a "non-human animals-only" cast? And if you are up to it, what was the date?
jamesglewisf
12-04-2004, 11:56 PM
Bambi (42) ?
Marcos
12-05-2004, 06:57 AM
Ah, yes. James you are correct. And you also got the year right. Bambi was the first animated film to feature only animals. It also debuted August 13, 1942.
Here is one that will suprise some of you.
The Library of Congress preserves certain films that it deems "culturally significant". There are many films on the list, many classic films like "Citizen Kane" and "American Grafitti". On the list are five Disney animated films. Can anyone name 3 out of 5?
Justawoman
12-05-2004, 09:49 AM
Well I can honestly think of one that is probably there, Fantasia. I would like to think that Beauty and The Beast is there. It is my favorite but what it has that is culturally significant I can't say. I just love it. *S* The only other true classic that is probably there would be Pinnochio. I have a hard time sitting through this movie. I am worse than a kid with long movies. Is Cinderella on it? I would think Lion King would be or Bambi.
Justawoman
12-05-2004, 09:51 AM
Or could it be some of those movies with real people and animals, like Rascal. I saw an infomercial last night where they were selling those again. Weren't they shown after Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom? I miss those classic sunday night shows.
Marcos
12-05-2004, 06:38 PM
Oh I loved the Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. That was a regular in my house when I was growing up. (Uh oh, are we showing our age here?)
But you are correct in your first three answers. They are all culturally significant. Here is the complete list.
Steamboat Willie
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Pinnochio
Fantasia
Beauty and the Beast
Even cartoon characters are not without controversy. Years ago Findland banned Donald Duck for something. What was it?
Justawoman
12-06-2004, 07:37 AM
Wearing no pants and I need to quit guessing. If that is correct then I might just fall off my chair but that is what popped into my head, no pants!!!
jamesglewisf
12-06-2004, 08:56 AM
I think Fantasia is a beating.
Justawoman
12-06-2004, 11:31 AM
Beating, as in hard to sit through? If that is what you are saying I have to agree. The music was great but after awhile it got a tad bit boring.
03robinb
12-06-2004, 03:02 PM
i didn't rreally like Fantasia that much.
i thought it was boring and a little too much flashing colours were used.
Marcos
12-07-2004, 06:23 AM
That is right Justawoman. He was banded because he wasn't wearing any pants. Strange though that, as a child, I never really realized he wasn't wearing any pants. I guess kids tend not to think in those terms when adults do.
jamesglewisf
12-08-2004, 10:25 PM
Beating, as in hard to sit through?
As in hard to sit through.

Is there a trivia question outstanding?
Justawoman
12-09-2004, 06:53 AM
Doesn't appear to be a question outstanding. Guess Marcos got busy.
Marcos
12-09-2004, 07:30 AM
Sorry about not posting a question sooner, but I've been a little busy. Now, on with the trivia.
Let's turn our attention to another popular character, Minnie Mouse. As we all know she is Mickey's girlfriend. But "Minnie" is not her true name. What is Minnie's full name? As a hint, "Minnie" is short for her full name.
jaimegerise
12-09-2004, 11:47 AM
Minerva?
Marcos
12-10-2004, 02:11 AM
That is correct. Minerva is Minnie's full name. It was first used in a comic strip way back in 1942.
Now, let's get a little harder and see what happens. A very early comic strip story introduced Minnie's father. What is his name?
Justawoman
12-10-2004, 07:44 AM
Father Mouse. *L* Now this is a good question.
CuriousG
12-10-2004, 10:03 AM
Milton Mouse? I have no idea, I'm just throwing something out there for fun.
Marcos
12-11-2004, 07:33 AM
The name of Minnie's father is "Marcus Mouse". Her mother has not as of yet been named. They are both farmers.
Her grandparents have been named, though. By any chance, would anyone know what their names might be?
jamesglewisf
12-13-2004, 08:43 AM
Marshall and something. I don't remember.
Marcos
12-13-2004, 04:57 PM
You are half right James. Minnie's grandparents names are Marshall and Matilda Mouse.
Staying on the subject of Minnie's relatives, Minnie also has an uncle. This uncle is her best known relative. What is his name? (Hint: Walt was going to use this name for someone else.)
Justawoman
12-14-2004, 06:58 PM
Okay didn't we have this name earlier? Is it Mortimer? That keeps ringing in my head for some reason.
Bruisy
12-14-2004, 08:23 PM

Nah. Mortimer was the origional name Walt Disney gave to Mickey. But his Brother (i think) advised him to change it to mickey....or was it his wife?....its been a few years since ive read the book
Marcos
12-15-2004, 04:45 AM
Ah yes, Justawoman. You are correct, as well as you Bruisy. Mortimer is the name of Minnie's uncle and it is also the original name for Mickey until his wife Lilian made him change it to Mickey. She thought Mortimer sounded too pretentious.
We all know that Pluto is Mickey's pet dog. Now, Minnie also has a pet, a pet cat to be specific. What is the name of this cat and in what movie did he make his debut?
Bruisy

Hello everyone, sorry about the lack of posting. I just rotated back from Korea and I have been busy taking care of things at the ol' homestead. I plan on being in and out occasionally asking Disney trivia. I hope that everyone has been doing well.
I do believe I owe you all an answer, but you probably already know it by now. At any rate...
The answer to the last question is indeed Figaro. Good one Bruisy.
Now, let's leave Minnie for a moment and look at our Big Three. Mickey, Donald and Goofy has appeared in many cartoons over the years. What was the name of the first comedy short that they appeared together in? And as usual: Can you also give me the date?
