The father of a baby girl snatched from the womb of her strangled mother greeted the infant as a miracle as the two were united after a grisly murder that gripped the United States, a Kansas hospital said on Saturday.

The girl, Victoria Jo Stinnett, was healthy and "a miracle," the Stormont-Vail hospital in Topeka, Kansas, quoted the girl's father, Zebulon Stinnett, as saying after the two were united late on Friday.

The girl's mother, Bobbie Jo Stinnett, 23, had been found strangled in her Missouri home on Thursday with her abdomen sliced open, the baby gone and the umbilical cord cut.

The woman was eight-months pregnant when discovered in a pool of blood by her mother, Becky Harper. Investigators said Harper "noted it appeared as though her daughter's stomach had exploded."

A nationwide "Amber Alert" for the missing baby drew intense attention. It was credited with helping authorities find the girl alive and in the possession of Lisa Montgomery, 36, of Kansas, who was arrested on Friday on murder and kidnap charges.

Montgomery confessed to killing Stinnett and taking the baby, according to a federal criminal complaint. Based on the statement, the authorities united the baby girl and her father, although DNA tests are pending, Nodaway County, Missouri, Sheriff Ben Espey said through a spokeswoman.

I read this story on yahoo yesterday and had to read it again because I couldn't believe it. I just don't understand how some people can do what they do. Some people are just sick.

I certainly hope this one gets the death penalty. There's nothing like stalking someone on the web so that you can kill her and steal her baby.

She was stalked on the web? When I first heard about this story it was before information was released, I think, because I only heard that a 23 year-old 8-month pregnant woman was killed....Then I heard how the baby was found with that other sicko...It's mind-boggling, isn't it? I mean truthfully, from a woman's perspective, I can't even imagine a woman would be capable of such an act. What is the killer's mental state? Have they said? What a person must go through to feel that passionately, to kill for your "own" child? What an unstable mind....sad...so sad... at least the miracle baby survived and is back in her rightful place....could you imagine explaining that to your child - of course when they are old enough to handle it. Or do you ever tell them? I think it isn't right to necessarily keep it from them but how traumatizing to learn that a woman wanted to kidnap you before you were born so they killed your mother. Think the kid will ever be right? Takes a strong soul to carry that weight.

The more this story is on the news, the more details come out. She had her tubes tied back the 90's. She was supposedly only 6 months pregnant when she came home with this baby. Doesn't say much for the husband does it? He sure didn't question her, that we know of. I would have been wondering how my wife could have gotten to the hospital or delivered at home without me knowing about the birth either way. It doesn't all add up on his part either. Do you think that the more they keep digging they will find out that he was involved as well? Surely he couldn't have been that unobservant to not notice something amiss in his own home. It baffles me.

Justawoman, you're talking about the sicko, right? So the story is that she had her tubes tied in the 90's, got pregnant recently despite that, and was 6 months pregnant herself when she killed some innocent young girl and stole her unborn child? That is one of the craziest things I've ever heard! How could a pregnant woman not empathize with another pregnant woman? I totally agree that that husband was involved somehow...it's so grossly bizarre...
