View Full Version : What's in a name?

How did you choose your member name?

I don't know what I was smoking, but when I signed up to be an editor at the Open Directory Project (http://dmoz.org/profiles/jamesglewisf.html), for some reason I added an "f" to the end of my name. And no, jamesglewis was not taken.

I've just stuck with it so people would know who I was. Another good reason to keep using it is that it is never already taken.

So, how did you come up with your user name?

I've seen some wonderfully creative names in other forums... unfortunately, mine is so simple I'm almost ashamed to say how I came up with it! *chuckle*

Mine is blinc...

B, for my husband Bill
L, for my name, Laura. The rest if for where we live...
I n
N orth
C arolina.

ooooh, amazingly creative, wasn't it? {rolleyes}

TTP, tell us what your member name is from.

TTP

TTP comes from one of my favorite songs. Also, I use it while playing Quake I through III Arena...all my friends look for 'TTP' when they want a challenge. ;)

A song originally done by Bob Seger...I think he was first...and then re-done by Metallica. I love both versions. I actually didn't choose the name, it was bestowed upon me by friends. :)

I stole it!!! My daughter had a list of creative names that she had written out, trying to decide what she wanted her screen name to be. She brought me the list when I was signing up with hotmail....it sounded and felt so warm and balanced, that i snagged it from her. (with her permission).
It wasn't one of the most unique names on her list, but it worked for me. And due to the fact that I am abset minded at times, I take it everywhere I go.

To TTP, One of my favorite songs of all times. I have a few, but that is still one song that gets put in my car when i have to do a highway trip. My husband isn't thrilled with Seger, but if get's to do the driving, I get to play dj.

Hi,

Mine is pretty simple, just liked the sound of it. It's the nick I use for most of my logins.

My alter-ego is usamedic1.

united states army medic 1(no reason, just habit to put a number on the end of the nick)

Mine I guess is pretty obvious - I'm a mommy and I'm in the military. Yes, you can do both. I have often been spotted in various places with Unseen1. ;)

Now, how exactly have you been spotted in various places with the great unseen1? If that is true, I believe we are going to have to re-think his member name. ;)

I shall appease Mr. Lewis...

I run a currently dormant site (I'll re-open it again next year) about baseball: The Warning Track (warningtrack.net)...

The Warning Track, for short, is called "TWT"...and since it's about baseball, and baseball has a Commissioner to run things, I decided It'd be kind of funny to call myself the "Commissioner" of the site, rather than the founder, owner or webmaster. Hence, "TWTCommish" - it's never taken either. :D

jamesglewisf

That's pretty cool. I would never have guessed what TWT meant.

TWTCommish

Yeah...I keep it now because I'm known by it in many places...plus "TWT" is sort of my baby - my first real site.

Oh my! I would have never guessed the reasons behind so many of the names. I think it's great! Cbreeze... hee hee, I like the snagging part! :)

Military mom! Welcome to the forum! I was thinking for some reason you were the mom of someone in the military. Now that we know, I bet you have busy, busy days! We're really glad you can come here to unwind. :)

TWT - that is so cool! I couldn't even guess at your name.

Unseen1 - I like that name... it sounds so mysterious! I gather you were/are a medic? I had a really good friend that was a medic in the navy. He really enjoyed his job and hopes to go to medical school when he gets out. Are you planning on anything in the medical field?

Roadrunner... beep beep! beep! beep beep beep beep beep!
For the non-beep speakers, it says:

Hello there! Welcome! Hope you have fun here! {toothy}

Wow! I can't believe I missed this one before. Well I got kezzer because my mom used to call me Kez when I was little but when I went to sign up for email Kez was taken. SO I really hate being a number so I thought and thought and alas, thought that Kezzer sounded neat. I still had to add a number to the end of it, because some where out in the world is another Kezzer. Oh boy, could you imagine!!!

Hi all,

I am the new guy on the block, so I guess I will reveal my name's meaning as well (although some may already understand).

No I am not a woman, and the Him is not my husband. The person I refer to in '4everHis' is Jesus Christ, and because he died to pay the penalty for my sins and purchase a place for me in heaven (a price I couldn't pay), and because the Bible tells me that once His, nothing and nobody can ever take you away from Him... I am '4everHis'!

Need I say, I am a Christian?

I look forward to speaking to you all soon.

4everhis,
Hi!
welcome to you..{benetton}
I love your name!! It is sooooo bold and different.
I hope you're having fun in here....Jim is doing a great job with this site and he has chosen the most wonderful ppl to help run it too....{rolleyes}

I would like to add to my name post.....
The '6' in my name could mean two things.....My six children, who the name was made for in the first place. Or The number of my favorite race car driver, Mark Martin.

Either way ya put it, it's spelled the same!

Nothing interesting about my sign in. Simply the first letter of my first name and the first 7 letters of my last name. I go to the University of Denver and we are only allowed 8 letters for our e-mail. Soooooooo that's where it comes from!:)

roldfiel,

It is interesting because it ends the mystery. I've been trying to figure that one out since you joined.

Karenluvs6
12-14-2000, 07:52 AM
well we all know what Karenluvs6 means, but how about my email name.....?

karobg:
actually it was originally KaRobG.
It comes from combining first three letters of my first name (kar) with the first three letters of hubby's first name (rob) and the g is the first initial of both of our last names. (guldin/gladney)

Lisa
12-14-2000, 07:43 PM
My name is my name. :) I've used Lisa W also. Creative, I am not. Our son's initials are WWW just like his daddy, grand-daddy and great-grand-daddy. That's about as creative as we get - oh and our daughter. I couldn't figure out how to spell it so I sounded it out. I was shootin' for Corrinne, sort of, but I sounded it out Kerr-in. Thus Kerrin. :) Can you tell I didn't name my dog? Our cows are #1,2,3,4,5..... and the horses names are their breed or color. Buck skin, Arabian, Bay and Whitie. Boaring! :)

TWTCommish
12-14-2000, 10:18 PM
WWW - hahaha. What a time to be born with those initials. :D

4gvnAngel
12-15-2000, 08:13 PM
4gvnAngel stands for my name- Angelique and God has forgivn me of all my sins because of the blood of Jesus. {angel} Hence-4gvnAngel {angel}

I have another one I had to use because everything else was taken...scrltwhit. Scarlet White....... Scarlet for the blood of Jesus that washes me White as snow.

Guess I don't have to say I beleive, do I?

Debby

I love your nicknames, and it is so much better than chalkboard......although he DOES erase our sins also...LOL....being silly here, nevermind. :)

PsalmReader
12-20-2000, 12:21 AM
I was going through some rough blended family times this summer. I had been on the phone with my husband's ex wife and was at a total loss for answers and couldn't sleep. I got my Bible out and started reading the verses I had underlined in Psalms and Proverbs. God spoke to me that night! The next day I found and joined a forum that was related to my situation. I chose this name then because I had been reading Psalms.

I like the play on words too. :) God speaks to us when we read the lines of His word, not the lines on our palms! ;)

Pretty creative. I like it Psalmreader. I missed the palm reader angle.
