I saw a few of you talking about tatoo's in another thread and thought I would start one here for us girls.
1) Who has one
2) Who wants one
3) What are your tatoos and where are they
I had one when I turned 40. I figured by that age my mom wouldn't get too mad at me {toothy}.
It is a small one on my toe. It looks like a toe ring.
It wasn't too painful. Only when he started on the inside of the toe where she skin is really thin did it sting alittle. But then I also went through both my childrens birth ala' natural with out even an asprin.
Lets hear your thoughts on tatoo's whether you are for them or against them.

Holy smokes! Natural Childbirth! I bow down before you, oh great one! lol Three centimeters and I was like, "bring on the Nubain!"
Well, I have no tats but I USED to have a belly button ring for about 2 yrs. Then, the day before I was scheduled to be induced, I caught it on the door jamb and ripped the skin, just a little. But just enough, I guess. Plus some of the skin actually wore so thin there was a tiny hole in the flap of skin over the ring. So, I had to take it out after I delivered my little boy. All that time and I had to take it out anyway. {frusty} Someday, when I finally rid myself of this ridiculous mini pot belly I now own, I may get another - to cover up the scar.
Hubby and I considered getting tribal bands around our upper left arms but that's too trendy - we need something more on the edge than that ... hmmm

If I was alot younger and had not bore two children in this thing that use to look like a stomach I would have loved to have had belly rings. Good thing all this wasn't trendy when I was a teenager.
As far as the natural childbirth goes mm, I didn't have a choice with my first. This was before epidurals and such. I was in the first Lamaze class in our area and was the first one to go into labor. They had a college class in my room with me (actually it was a ward, this was before labor rooms, they just had us all lined up against the wall in our beds) they each would come and listen to the babys heart beat. They also followed me into the delivery room to watch an actual birth.
Back then they also would strap your legs at the calf and thigh as well as your arms above and below your elbow. I asked why they were doing that and I was told that if they did not strap your arms down it would be a womans instinct to sit up and grab down there to pull the baby out.
Amazing how much changed in just 6 years when I had my 2nd daughter. By then Lamaze was typical of every labor and you actually had labor rooms.
They also back then would not allow anyone in the room with me when I had the baby except my husband and he and I both had to wear mask so we wouldn't spread germs to the baby.
Both my daughters say they will have an epidural the second they feel a pain. I love to watch that childbirth show on Lifetime. You hardly see anyone having natural childbirth anymore. Thats probably a good thing.

Yikes, so you were one of the poor women subjected to us fumbling blushing nursing students?!?!?! Well, I must hand it to you again - you provided for them an experience that most likely moved them beyond anything they had ever seen before. I recall watching my first birth - this wonder woman was in labor for oh 4 hrs, pushed for 20 minutes, glaring steadily and quite evilly at her husband and a beautiful, perfect munchkin was brought forth. Ahhh. I cried, so did the other student I was with - and she already HAD kids of her own!
Just as I was in the throes of actual pushing Andrew OUT, a fresh freckle-faced med student popped his head in and announced that he'd be watching me split in half, if that was alright with me. AS IF I had a choice. Good thing I really didn't mind. (You see, earlier, I had thrown a barf pan at my husband... empty by then but, still) I probably scared the **** out of him because after the baby was out, I felt TONS of fluid pouring out of me. Worrier that I am, I was convinced I was bleeding to death, and I proceeded to issue instructions to my doctor on where the blood bank was located, where the rapid blood transfusion machine was located in the ER downstairs... etc... I all but wrote my will. Oh its funny NOW...
lol
And to think I'm afraid of a little tattoo....

Oh mm that is too funny. So much of what you experienced happened to me also.
In reality it was a blessing. I was in labor for 19 hours and pushing for 7 hours. Back then C-sections were not common, nor did they have heart monitors for the babies. My daughter got jammed in the birth canal hitting her little eye over and over against my pelvic bone. I was in a lot of pain and the College teacher stayed by my side the whole time rubbing my back for me and just calming and reassuring me also. She was my miracle worker for sure. They marked an X on my stomach where the babies heart was and each student would come in and take the stethescope and listen to her heart and also check me to see how dialated I was. They also didn't ask my permission, but in all it was a blessing having her there.
Each student ended up staying through the whole labor and delivery with me. I was quite a suprise to look up the first time I pushed in the delivery room and see a whole class standing there staring at you.
But, thank goodness that these med students have this opportunity. It could have been a student like that back then that saw the first women go through Lamaze and decided to research and invent the epidural.

Oh boy...one of my favorite subjects!
Hey CJ, I had my six children through natural birth also!
It wasn't as bad as ppl would think, really. I had no medications either...not for any of the kids'...My condition wouldn't allow it. It did me good too, because now I can take any kind of pain, no problem!
On to the tattoos...
As I said in the other thread, a few days ago....I have four of them right now.
A ring of red hawaiian flowers with green vine and leaves, around my right ankle.
A large one on my right, back shoulder....it is two large roses with a fairly big heart in between and through the heart is a banner with hubby's name on it...Robert...not BEEZWAX!....the colors on it are red, fuschia, green, yellow and blue.
On my lower back, going all the way across...I have a tribal design....it is done in black ink. In the center of that design, is a long stem rose.
Around the back and sides of my neck, I have a vine of hearts. I drew it myself. It is a very dark green vine with green leaves. In the center of the vine is a red heart, a little bigger than a quarter...it is outlined in faded yellow....on each side of that heart are two smaller purple hearts also outlined in faded yellow...on each side of those hearts, are two smaller red hearts also outlined in faded yellow and then on each side of those hearts are two more, smaller purple hearts...also outlined in faded yellow....This is the prettiest tattoo I have ever seen.
It is very unique! But even though I drew it, it doesn't look amatuer....it looks very professional!
I am waiting to get another one....I may get it around christmas or shortly after. It is a picture of a dragon...it is orange and red. I will not get it really big, but enough to see it.
I love tattoos and I love dragons.

Boy, I'm a weenie!! With my daughter After about 4 hours I couldn't take it anymore and asked for drugs. But they ran out and wouldn't give me anymore after they broke my water. With my son I was trying to go natural, but when they said they were going to break my water, I remembered how it was with my daughter and asked for meds. Well, I really shouldn't have had them with my son because he was born so soon after I was still so woozy. He barely made a peep the whole night either.
On with tats though, I have a frog on my shoulder, It's small maybe 3 inches and black. It needs to be fixed because I took the color out of it's belly. I also have a dragon on my calf which my hubby drew for me. It's hard to explain so I'll have to remember to take a picture of it and put it on my web page. I want another one but I'm not sure what I want yet. Or where I want it.

You guys will think I'm silly...but since pain is not a good thing for me ( Ive never had a child either) I am a little afraid of getting a tattoo. But I would love to have one on my ankle...a small one. I get those fake tattoos sometimes in the summer and put one on my ankle and it looks good when I go to the beach, but of course it wears off in a week or so.

lol that is funny!
HI guys. Please don't hate me...but I don't like tatoos...on anyone. I think big tatoos are especially yucky. Maybe it's just because of where I am in this country. (Small Bible Belt town)But the majority of people around here with tatoos are....well stinky looking.I might like a very very very small one that would be in a place that the general public will never ever ever see! like a rose or sun or something like that. But mostly they are just not for me.
My BIL and Sil both have one. BIL has flames across his back that make it look like his butt is on fire. and SIL has a very small sun around her belly button. Funny how different my DH and his brother are.
Please don't take my comment to heart... I think all of you are super nice people and I bet you have all bathed today.:)
Most of the men here with tatoos are really rough looking and rough talking so that is all I really have to base my opinion on. Maybe if I lived somewhere other than the sticks I would think differently!

I don't care for tatoos myself, but have to say I know quite a few folks with them that are extremely nice folks, so guess it is just a matter of taste. I wouldn't let my girls get one when all of their friends were getting small ones here and there, in high school. I told them someday it won't be so cool and it is very expensive to get rid of them. Who knows they may be in style forever, so many people seem to have them these days.

I have three kids all boys and no drugs in child birth so I think I can handle the pain. Had my belly button peired hurt alot and it never healed so i took it out. i have my tongue pierced didn't hurt and only took a couple of months to talk like a normal person again and it's been 4 years. This site is a great idea.

Okay...now that I HAVE had a child, almost 2 years ago...31 hours of labor, I am thinking a tattoo doesn't sound too bad and would actually like to have one on my ankle. :) I would love to have my belly button peirced if I had a little more flattering stomach! :) I need to lose 15 lbs first! :D

I just have to say that I work with the elderly. I can't imagine having a tatoo/tattoo when I am in my 80's or 90's. I mean the skin sags, wrinkles, and bruises quite frequently.
What started out as a cute, small rose might end up looking like a big angry sore. After seeing aging skin I can only imagine what beautiful skin art will look like when those folks are in the 80's or 90's.

I have a sun/moon on my upper middle back. I got in the summer of my 34th year. I had been wanting to get one since my mid twenties, but wasn't exaclty sure what I wanted. So, I designed it myself and had a very talented tattoo artist do it for me.
It must be nice because when I had my last child the nurses were all commenting on how nice it is. :D

funny note here....
In between my two tattoos, I was what 18? and all gung ho about them. I came up with cute little ideas like a shamrock on the top of my foot, a star near my hairline on my neck, a gecko on my ear (along the curve on the top) - all of these small and in painful areas...one of which I thought of was a smiley face about the size of the tip of my finger right below my belly button. I was 18 and had a great body...so...fortunately my friend Chad says "so...are you planning on having kids someday?" I said "yeah". He says - "you're gonna scare the **** out of the doctor at the ultrasound!....He's gonna lift up your shirt and be like "WOE!"...Then after you have the kids you smiley face is gonna look like a frown" Needless to say....I don't have a smiley face tattoo on my stomach! nor any of those other small painful ones.
What I do have, is: a sun on the inside of my left ankle with the yin/yang symbol in the middle...that one is yellow and orange for the colors of the sun and is amazingly still bright for the 10 years I've had it! People can't believe it's that old! The second is probably 8 years old now...maybe 9...and it's on my lower back, left side...just below my hip hugger jeans, and is a star with a dancer in the middle. It's intentionally one of those gross forms, similar to a starfish but longer...a curvy stick figure similar to that in african art of tribal dancers...I'd love to get a 3rd of a moon (and I know how I want this customized to me since I drew the other two and would like to complete my own personal circle of sun/moon/star) but I can't think of a girly place to put it that I won't regret and still have it large enough to clearly show the picture....so I only have the two STILL...I've wanted this completed for probably 7 years now.

My story? Don't really have one. I was always fascinated with Ancient Egypt, so I thought it fitting that I'd get something egyptian for a tattoo. So I looked at all the gods & goddesses, picked one that I saw fit the best ... Tada! That's how I got Ma'at on my back {exercise}

That's cool. I've studied Wicca which drew me to learn all the many Gods and Goddesses of many different cultures. I'm more comfortable with Greek - it resonates a little more with me, but one of my teachers was VERY into Egypt....the incarnate of Isis, I swear! I am intrigued by Ancient Egypt but, truthfully, a little intimidated. The closest I've been was almost buying a pharoah hound and naming him Anubis...but... I didn't want to open any cans of worms, {popworm} so I have a Bluetick named Triton. It suits him. And that's my story...and the reason for my intrigue of yours...{read}

I saw this thread and figured I'd revive it a bit. I always thought it would be kinda cool to get a tatoo - just a small one, on an ankle or somewhere it couldn't be seen, but one that really meant something to me. I had a bunch of Celtic knots picked out and a friend and I were going to get them done until my husband heard us talking. I had no idea how he felt about the whole thing; I should have asked! He was so upset about it I changed my mind. He said he'd never speak to me again if I did it - can't figure out if that meant he'd leave altogether or just spend the rest of our lives in a mute state, but either option wasn't good for me!

CJ
Wow, I like the idea of a toe ring tattoo. May I ask you to describe what it looks like? My daughter is getting a design on her lower back (just where the back dimples are if you have them). I was thinking of a tattoo, but I am still undecided. I would like to get a belly ring if I were a bit younger. I have a flat stomach without scars, but don't get to wear swim suits that often. Midriff tops are not something I would typically wear.
I also went through childbirth without a drop of pain killer. Natural was the way to go in the 80's when my daughter was born. Have to say I would choose a pain killer if I had to do it again.

The tattoos on the small of the back can be cute on the right figure. I have seen some women with them that should not have been wearing revealing clothes at all. More skin hanging out than clothes covering up.

I've been told that people w/ tattoos are ones who aren't afraid of permanency / commitment / believe in "forever."
I have one and always wanted another one, but still have no idea what or where to put it. It's a single chinese word on the top of my right arm, facing out, 3 square cm in size, black; it means "fate between 2 people." it was my own (23rd) birthday present to myself. It felt like having the thin lead tip of a mechanical pencil dragged across my skin, very bearable since it was small. both my best friend (gay, male) and I wanted something in Chinese, but I didn't know what, and at the place he got this idea and I loved it cuz i totally believe in it. also, it's a pretty / aesthetic word. he got it over his heart. i like that we'll always have this special bond cuz he's my best friend for life.
I get a lot of attention, strangers ask me all the time what it means and it annoys me, but that's the price of not having a tat that's not hidden. I think it makes me look strong, cuz it makes me feel strong and grounded. The only time I slightly regretted was when I was planning to marry a Jewish person - Jews are not supposed to be buried with tattos when they die. But besides that I love it cuz I can show it or hide it very easily as the occasion calls. If I change my mind when i'm an old lady later on, I'm sure in 30 yrs they'll have much more effective tattoo removal procedures than what exists now, so I'm not worried. I just don't know if I should let it show on my wedding day, because I know most of the older adults wouldn't appreciate it / would disapprove or think it's tacky.

Just make sure you do your research on the chinese signs or you might end up with "chicken fried rice" tattooed on your butt ;)
