My daughter is making a PowerPoint presentation on Norway, our town and our familly, so she can show at her new school and around other places she might go. But what would YOU like to know about our country? Any suggestions?
What are the temperatures like during different seasons?
How long are the days during different seasons?
What kind of cars (manufacturers) do you drive?
At what age do you start driving in Norway?
How many years are you in school? How many years are you in college?
What are the popular professional sports in Norway?
How big are families in Norway?
Do most people in Norway live in houses or apartments?
Do extended families live together? Grandparents and aunts and uncles?
How many TV channels do they have in Norway?
How does your country's government work? President, King, Parliament, Judiciary?
How does the size of Norway compare to something we can understand in the US? Is it the size of Maine or Texas or two states combined?
What different languages do most Norwegians speak?
Do you have state-sponsored health care or is it private?
What are your taxes like?
Are most people religious? Does the average Norwegian attend church or synagogue regularly?
Is it common to have pets?
How big are families usually? (number of children)
Is there much fear of terrorism in Norway?

Alec, you are so cool. You have almost written down all the things that I like to know about Norway.
Anyway, I still get some questions, Hanna. Haha.
1) When do you usually get married?
2) What do you usually do at the weekends?
3) Do you like watching TV? If you do, what kind of program is the most pupular?
4) Are there any special festivals in Norway? And at those occasions, what kind of food do you prepare?
5) What is your main food?
Ooh. I totally forgot food and holidays. Good job Smily_Crystal!

I think all the things I was going to ask have been suggested already!! :) I was going to ask about Government, climate, language, and food. This may have been asked already, but are there certain customs that you all adhere to that are different than the U.S.? I think it is great that she is doing a powerpoint presentation.....I love Powerpoint....that is one of the many things I learned to do in college. Hey....since I have Powerpoint on my computer....could you have her e-mail me her presentation so that I could watch it? If so....send me a PM and I will give you my e-mail address. I may not be online for a few days, but would love to see it! :)

Also....maybe if you have time, you could post the answers to those above questions so that everyone would know. :)
Crystal...I like your thoughts at the bottom of your posts...."give thanks to the Lord" and "never give up". Also...I see you are from China....I would be interested about learning some of the above questions that were asked about Norway, for China, as well. I do know one thing.....I LOVE Chinese food!!! I could live on it! The local Chinese restaurant here is owned by a family from China, and they are so nice! The wife of the man who owns it is so friendly to me, and she has a child a year or so younger than mine and shows me pictures of her. She just got back from visiting her family in China recently and had pics of her daughter taken there in traditional Chinese clothing.

Debby, I am so happpy that you notice my thoughts at the bottom of my posts.
And as for Chinese food, I have shared some information with Nosey before. She also likes chinese food very much.
I am so proud that I was born in a country that is so rich in culinary art. If you have any questions about chinese food or any other things about China, please don't hesitate to let me know, I will answer them as soon as I can.

How big is the file?
Hannamoren
08-07-2005, 05:44 PM
It sais:85 200 kb. Is that big?
jamesglewisf
08-07-2005, 06:19 PM
Yeah. That's the problem. It is 85 megabytes in size. 85,200 KB is 85 MB. You won't be able to send it to me unless you can compress it in a zip file. The other thing you can do is shrink the pictures in it. The pictures are probably almost all of the size. You can optimize or make smaller most jpegs. Your daughter probably knows how to do it if you don't.

Hello Hanna!. Me too please? pretty please?;) ..
Alec pretty much summed up all the question's
From what I understand your property taxes are different from our's, in that
if there are no improvements to your home, the higher the taxes.
Here in Canada the more improvements we do,the more taxes we pay.
Is this right?
If so, then it makes sense, as it would encourage people to make improvements to their home & help to beautify their town or country.

I just didn't get to send the Powerpoint...... Too big, I guess. But I will try to answer some of the questions:
What are the temperatures like during different seasons?
That depends on where you live in Norway, but for Jessheim, where I live(about 35 minutes from Oslo, it can actually warious between -30in the winter and 25 in the summer.
How long are the days during different seasons?
At summer, it doesn't get dark, but it looks more like a grey day in America. But in August, it starts getting dark at 11-12 PM and light at about5-6 I would thing. In the winter it gets dark around3-4PM and daylight at 10 I think.
What kind of cars (manufacturers) do you drive? Many kinds. We have a Hunday and a Volvo, my parents have a Fiat and my sister have a Peugot. Not many American cars, because they use too much gas!!! One gallon of gass would cost you about 8$ here, so we go for cars that are cheap in use!
At what age do you start driving in Norway? At 18. And a drivinglicens will cost you from 4000$ and up. One hour with a driver cost 7$.
How many years are you in school? How many years are you in college? We go 13 years that we HAVE to go. I am not sure what college is. If that is what you do after normal school, that is normaly 3 years.
What are the popular professional sports in Norway? Football(or socker as you call it.
How big are families in Norway? We have an avarage on 2,3 children.
Do most people in Norway live in houses or apartments? I would guess houses.
Do extended families live together? Grandparents and aunts and uncles? Not normaly.
How many TV channels do they have in Norway? 4, but we have a satelite, and get more then 2000.....
How does your country's government work? President, King, Parliament, Judiciary? We have a king, and a goverment.
How does the size of Norway compare to something we can understand in the US? Is it the size of Maine or Texas or two states combined? There are 4,5 million people in Norway. And it is not very big, so my guess would be Texas is WAY bigger.....
What different languages do most Norwegians speak? We speak Norwegian. Then there are different dialects. We have 2 different writing languages, and everyone has to learn both. There is one they use in big cities, and one out on the country. It is called Bokmål and Nynorsk.
Do you have state-sponsored health care or is it private? State-sponsored.
What are your taxes like? 25% on everything we buy. From what we earn at work, it waries. Like my husband pays almost 50% taxes. It depends on how much you earn.
Are most people religious? Does the average Norwegian attend church or synagogue regularly? No, most people are not religious. But some people go to church on Sunday.
Is it common to have pets? That would be like America, I think.
How big are families usually? (number of children) 2,3
Is there much fear of terrorism in Norway? Since our goverment stood behind Bush and Blair, out country has been threaten too. And we live fairly close to England, so of course we are scared. But nothing have happen so far(knock on wood)

And here were some more:
1) When do you usually get married? Most get married at their late 20, I think. More and more people just don't get married.
2) What do you usually do at the weekends? We usually try to do something with hte kids, and it epends if it is winter or summer. But try to be outside as much as we can, both seasons!
3) Do you like watching TV? If you do, what kind of program is the most pupular? For us, it is comedy, like Everyone loves Raymond, King of Queens etc. But Lost, 24, CSI are populare shows
4) Are there any special festivals in Norway? And at those occasions, what kind of food do you prepare? We have 17ht of May, whitch is our constitution day. We have Rømmegrøt(whitch is a porage made of sour cream) and dried, salted meat. Then we have Hot-dogs and ice cream.
5) What is your main food? Many people eat fish. Since we live by the north sea, it is fairly easy to get fish, like salmon etc. But other from that, we eat like the americans I guess. We just don't have the variaty of food. We have to make most things from scratch
OK, Smily, now it is your turn. I would like to know about China!!!
