Well, my computer is set up and running in Houston, TX!!! It's great to have access to my computer again.
JAW, looks like this thread was started over...so what is this about the Dr? Is it regarding your Dad? I hope everything is going okay for you, too!
Have missed you guys a lot! I go for my first physical therapy tomorrow. Went for my evaluation on Tuesday, so anxious to see what they can do for me!

Hot and humid, I am so sick of it. We've got a parade on Sunday and it is just gonna be yucky.
Got my new Scunci power steamer that I ordered from QVC..... I am having a blast playing with it, and I am getting more housework done than I have in a long time! lol

Had no clue it was going on Kezzer. I bet it is awesome to see.
My dad is sitting up in his wheelchair and alert. He asked for his glasses, to see the dog, and a television. They figured out that with his changing diet needs he was taking too much insulin or something like that.
My daughter that is going to college this fall in San Angelo has joined the Army Reserve. I am still letting that sink in.
Great to see everyone posting. Hey ho Beck, Hanna, and James.

Hi y'all, just popping in to let ya know I'm still (barely) alive and hopefully I'm going to be around more often.
And yeah ... I'm still baby-sitting {rolleyes}
Hannamoren

There you are, Nosey! So when will you stop babysitting? You really don't have time to do that, you should be in here, you know....
It looks like a very nice day here. We talked to our daughter again last night, and she is doing well. And when she is well, her worried parents are well.
Hanna is watching Shreck again, my DH is still asleep, my company is out on our deck, smoking, and I am making breakfast.
My day today? Probably not far from FD!!!

Yep, Nosey is brave alright to keep someone else's children. My best friend moved back to Muleshoe a few years back. Her boy was 2 or so. She asked me to babysit. I gave the job to my oldest daughter. My best friend asked me again recently. He is 5 now. I told her I wanted him to continue to like me. Once you become the rule setter and enforcer the fun friend goes out the window. I know it would with me. My friend lets her young'un rule the roost around her house. He is too rowdy for me.

Hi guys! I'm back in the condo after running around Houston to my physical therapy and several other errands.
My oldest grandson started kindergarten today....I woke up and cried that he has started school, had no idea it would make me feel like that. My DD said he had a wonderful first day, (he is very social, like his mom...lol). One thing I have learned about grandkids is you go through a lot of the same feelings with them that you did with your own kids, isn't that weird. Guess I shouldn't say weird, because it really just plain old love!!!

Saturday night and I am on my way to bed. I had a wisdom tooth pulled out yesterday, and boy, do I regrett that today.......I have been eating so many painkillers, I live in my own foggy world. Just hoping that I will sleep tonight.
It started to rain tonight, and the grass desperately needed it.
My daughter in Texas loves her new school, and she is helping making the yearbook. It is a lot of fun for her, since we do not have yearbooks in Norway. The other students are being so nice to her, inviting her out. So she is loving it.
Well, goodnight, good people! See you tomorrow!!

Hanna, you are supposed to swallow those pain pills...lol I hope your tooth feels better soon!
I've had a crazy last few days (so what else is new), we left Houston, Thurs. night, headed to Dallas to stay overnight at my DD's, got there at almost midnight, got up yesterday morning and went to my back Dr. appt. in Ft. Worth, then headed back to the ranch. Got up early this morning and helped Ray and about 6 other guys herd some of our cows from one of our places down the county road to our place where we live (the guys were on horseback), a real live cattle drive. It was about a 5 or 6 mile stretch...can't believe I forgot my camera, it was pretty cool looking. Tomorrow we head to Midland, then back to the ranch Monday night and then back to Houston on Tuesday.............I don't know how long I can keep this pace up, it's wearing me out!!! I don't know where I live anymore or what day of the week it is...guess it keeps life interesting, have to think that or I will go plum nuts!

So I decided a few weeks ago that I was going to paint my kitchen. What a disaster this is turning into. I still have wallpaper border to come down. I just finished taking apart my cabinets and giving the inside of them a fresh coat of paint and new contact paper. Now I am working on stripping the doors so I won't be adding a fifth layer of paint when I paint them lol. It's all so time consuming, and frustrating that I can't finish in a day! So I'm sure I'll be MIA more so than before untl I get this done.

I don't know why I come in here at 1 o'clock, and get disapointed because there are no new posts. You are all sleeping!!!!
My tooth is killing me, and yesterday I went to the ER. There I met a dentist from Hell, and I was sure she was going to kill me. When I got out of there, I could not help myself, I started to cry like a baby. My whole body shock, and I was not sure If I could get myself over to our car.If I never see that woman again, it will still be too soon. So here I am, eating painkillers as if it was candy. I have got some strong ones from my dentists, so if I start to sing, you all have to excuse me.
I will check in later, to see if there are anyone here.

Yeah, they need supplies for Pre-school and Kindergarten ... pencils, papers, glue, crayons and so on.
But the older ones need calculators, dictionaries, encyclopedias and a bunch of other stuff on top of the above mentioned ... so it can get quite pricey :|
Hannamoren

Here we do not have to pay for anything, until they get to 11.th grade. Then they don't have to go to school anymore (by the law).

Is it i kind of potatochip?Nachos
Nachos in their simplest form are usually tortilla chips covered in melted cheese. Common additional toppings are:
Ground beef
Jalapeņo pepper slices
Refried beans
Salsa
Guacamole
Sour cream
Nachos were created in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico by Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya in 1943. The story goes that the wives of American airmen came to his restaurant after the kitchen had closed. Anaya quickly prepared the dish and later added it to his menu. The term "Nachos" came from what the dish was originally called, "Nacho's Especiales," or "Nacho's Special Dish." In its traditional form, it is a creation consisting of a quartered tostada topped with a layer refried beans and/or various meats and a layer of shredded cheese.
Nachos became popular as a concession food after the development of a premade cheese sauce which eased preparation. The cheese sauce can be dispensed on top of the tortilla chips, but it is often simply offered as a dip.
The first professional sports team to offer nachos in the concession stand was baseball's Texas Rangers. Nachos were cast into the spotlight by Monday Night Football's Howard Cosell. Cosell had purchased some nachos before a game and quickly used the word "nachos" to describe a spectacular play.

Hanna have you heard from your daughter?

Jepp, I have heard from her(almost everyday.....) She LOVES your schoolsystem and her new classmates. Everyone at school is so nice to her. She is a very quiet girl, and don't easily get new friends, but not over there! She has been to a sleep over atone girl, ona footballgame with others, They have taken her bowling, dining etc. She just loves it. Thank you for asking!

Hi, guys, back at Houston and our air conditioning is not working, can you believe that???? I am going to die in this heat and humidity today. Hope we can get someone out here asap. Our landlord is in Hawaii...........yikes!!!
Hanna and JAW, hope your girls are doing well, and their Mom's too!!! It's hard, isn't it? Hard to cut those apron strings, at least for me it is!
Nosey, hope you still had fun at Six Flags, even in the rain, at least it was cooler, maybe!!! I love that little man that dances, too and the song he dances to, always gets my attention when he comes on TV...ha ha
I am glued to the Fox news channel watching the hurricane stuff. We have been to New Orleans many times for oil conventions, we even had to evacuate one time due to a hurricane coming in, it was quite scary! We have a niece in Misssissippi, hope she is okay, too!!!

Missing the bus looks like a sign to what the school year has in store for you.
My kids haven't rode the bus in several years. In fact the youngest has never rode the bus. But it came by the first day of school and just honked and honked. We all looked out the door at the driver like he had lost his marbles or something. We don't ride because they are way over crowded and no discipline.

I have only once been on one of your schoolbusses, and that was to a haunted house around Halloween. Boy was that fun!
We do not have school busses. If you need to take the bus to school, you will have to take the ordiairy bus. So there are not only kids, and it will not stop outside your house.
I woke up this morning, from Hanna calling me. I was sure the time was around 6AM,{whistle2} and not very inspired to go and get her. But I did, and I looked at the clock. It was over 9AM!!!! {shakeno} Time to get up,I guess....

Pretty good in Houston, we are at the ranch today, and will head back to the big city sometime tomorrow!!! I did go out Friday and get some pots of flowers, etc. for our balcony in Houston, I miss my yard!!! I keep telling myself, it's not forever. I could never live in a big city permanently!!!!!!!! Just to congested with people, it's just not much of a life, IMO. Shopping is great, but who cares, when it takes you 2 hours to run somewhere and it should only take 30 minutes....oh well, country is not for everyone either, that's what makes the world go around, right? I feel more human today. Yippee!!
By the way my daughter's flag corp made all 1's. They advanced to the final round and walked away with the number one spot. First time for Muleshoe's flag corp. I am so proud of these 9 girls. They did a number to Dirty Dancing's "I Had The Time Of My Life".

Me, too, JAW, those hurricanes are changing names so fast I'm having a hard time keeping up with them!! One thing I do know is...if they say evacuate, I'm outta here!!! It would be nice if the ranch would get some rain from it, if it does head our way, we could use some right now. We had 4/10's in the rain gauge on Friday night when we got home, but sure need more.

This hurricane is freaking me out. Just talked to the AFS center, and they said they had 4 students in the area it might hit. 2 of htem are evacuating, and 2 they can not get in contact with. My daughter is one of those. I am so scared, just waiting for the time go faster, and I can try to call her again. What about you, Beck, are you still there?
Justawoman
09-22-2005, 07:58 AM
If Beck is smart, and we all know her and Ray are, they got of a Houston. Just watching the news on Galveston showed a ton of traffic flowing my direction. When you watch the weather channel and they show the projected path of the storm, it covers half of Texas. Now that means the actual hurricane will produce outcropping storms that can be felt as far inland as Abilene. I live 4 more hours from Abilene. We should just get rain. We have friends in Houston. Our phone call to them yesterday was interesting. They were on the road to Waco. It was going to take them all day yesterday and part of last night to get there due to traffic. They said they couldn't get unleaded gas at all in Houston.
Smithville is 173 miles from Galveston or a 3 hour drive. I know you didn't want to hear that Hanna.
Here is some info I got off a city website from Smithville.
City of Smithville
Tex Middlebrook, City Manager
City of Smithville
P.O. Box 449
Smithville, Texas 78957
(512) 237-3283
FAX: (512) 237-4549

The city manager should tell you what they are advising the residents of Smithville to do. I just hope the phone number is current.

Hanna: I wouldn't worry too much, Hanna... afterall the people your daughter stays with were smart enough to have an exchange-student stay with them, so I'm pretty sure there smart enough to get out of there. Maybe they already left, and that's why you can't get a hold of them. {fonzy}
JAW: How far away from all the mess are you?!
Justawoman
09-22-2005, 08:26 AM

Jaw, do you think, by looking at these photos, that Smithville is not going to be hit as hard?
Justawoman
09-22-2005, 09:30 AM
It all depends if it turns more to the east before hitting land. I honestly don't know Hanna. I have never went through a hurricane. The closest thing to that for me is the tornado we went through one summer. Those only last minutes.
Grimey
09-22-2005, 09:30 AM
Basements are for tornadoes, not hurricanes. Basements flood in hurricanes.
I've heard that it is going more east than originally projected. According to weather.com, the chance for rain in Smithville is only 40% on Saturday with winds up to 26 mph. That's not a real big storm. Smithville is closer to Austin than Houston.

Grimey is right about the basement think Hanna. You don't want in a basement if you are looking at flood waters.

You see! My mind isn't even thinking right!! Thank you for telling me. Then I don't have to worry about that.
I will stay calm untill tomorrow. If my daughter think it is safe where she is, then I will trust that. If not, I will get her moved somehow.
Thank you all for listening!!! {flowers}JAW, you are this very good friend that just seem to calm me down when I get hysterical. When I am like this, I need information,anad you allways seem to find it for me. You are the best {hug}

{hug} I'd say Hanna, try not to worry too much, but that's easy for me to say
We've been pretty much glued to CNN here & our thought's are with everyone down there. I can't even picture living through something as devastating as these Hurricanes, losing your children,& having to leave your homes behind, then returning to find there is nothing left of your life.
These looter's, IMHO, should be shot on site! in the knees!

It took me years to quit letting my emotions run away from me. Now I tell my girls I want to deal in facts and form an opinion. So you are very welcome. But if I were in your shoes, I would be worried beyond belief too. It is only normal Hanna. Hang in there and we will all keep you posted on what we hear coming out of that area.

I posted our ordeal, on the Rita thread! Hanna, I think your daughter should be okay where she is, may get rain and wind...but, she'll be okay, I bet cha!
LadyBug, glad to see you posting, we missed you!!!
I am so happy to be home (the ranch), been watching Fox all day, wonder what tomorrow will bring regarding "Rita"! Never dreamed I'd get caught in a mess like that...Whew!

I have been talking to my daughter, and it seems the hurricane is not going to hit them! {woohoo} And Beck and Ray are safe at the farm! I'm so glad. Now we can only pray it calms down even more, before it hits land.

I sure appreciate everyone's prayers, it's so nice!!! We really are our own little family on this board, aren't we? Ray told me this morning we may not even attempt going back until Tuesday, just depends on what happens...geeesh, I hope they are wrong on their predictions! I have just been watching Fox nonstop, even woke up at 2:30 this morning and had to turn the tv on to see if their were any new developments!

Hello Beck. I'm not sure where you are, (although I could go back on the posts & find out). I hope you & your DH & family are keeping safe. it is unbelievable what is happening over there!. The mass of traffic trying to get out of Huston is near to almost insane! It is so hard to picture being in such a situation!
I know I speak for the majority of the the Canadian People.. "Our heart's and prayer's are with you all".
Hanna, I'm so glad your daughter is safe!..

Hi everyone!. It's been cool here today, 14C-57F. We've been getting frost over night. We started up our wood furnace & does it ever feel nice, there just is nothing like wood heat. Our day's are still sunny & the leaves are still hanging on, till a good wind pick's up & blow's off all the nice color, that's when it start's to look dreary!
I hope everyone is safe, warm, & dry! :)

The smell of a fireplace is a good smell. No need for a heater here yet. But if you all are using them already ladybug then my part of Texas won't be far behind. I saw on the weather where Yellowstone was predicted to get snow. Fall is here.
This weekend my daughter in San Angelo came home. I think she came home to see her boyfriend. We saw her at lunch Sunday and that was about it. I won't be surprised if a wedding is the future for those two. Our oldest daughter worked all weekend and with her new job and schedule is getting geared up to go back to school this next semester. I am glad she is going to finish radiology. Our third daughter, 16, had all region choir competition. She advanced to area. If she places there she will be in the state choir competition. I spent all day with this group of kids. I had a blast. Our youngest went with us. I think they all adopted her as their little sister.
Sunday I was lazy, lazy, lazy. It felt so good.

Yet another monday! Hanna and I went out in the wods with some other parents and kids. We grilled hot-dogs and had a lot of fun. A good way to spend a monday. Then I went to the store to get more stuff for my scrappbook(like I need it....{twitch} ) And now I will start dinner.
On Saturday we took Hanna to the firestation, they had a open day, where all the kids could go, and they got a helmet. Hanna liked her so much, she wore it to church yesterday.....

If it is for me, heaven's sake no I don't design them. They would look worse than a kindergarten's artwork. I just find them and then go resize them in our photo viewer.

Working on my third. I bought Folgers new Cinnamon Swirl Coffee. It is good. Just a hint of cinnamon. I still like their vanilla flavored best.

I drink mine black ... maybe a little milk {toothy}
Can't get warm with all the weird flavors they have ...
Justawoman
09-28-2005, 09:36 AM
Well my cinnamon coffee has no added sweetners. It is black. I thought the flavorings in Folgers would mask the strong, brewed, black, flavor of the coffee. It really doesn't. I was pleasantly surprised.

09-28-2005, 09:42 AM

Don't like cinnamon? How can that be? Homemade cinnamon candy is the best. Cinnamon Altoids is my favorite. I chew big red gum. I burn cinnamon candles. hmmmmm and then there is vanilla. The two just go together like Ra-ma la-ma la-ma ka ding-a da ding-de dong.

Hi, all! I'm with you JAW love cinnamon anything and vanilla, too!!! But, I am having my morning Dr. Pepper, that's my coffee.
We rolled back into Houston at midnight, last night, all seems well here. My plants I had to move off the balcony and into the condo were all still living, so I was happy about that!!! They were very thirsty, so I was out on the balcony at midnight giving them a drink, and it was a steambath out there, it is so humid here it's just ridiculous!
Sure enjoyed our extra time at the ranch. We have a wedding in Lovington, New Mexico this weekend. Our nephew is getting married on Saturday, so we won't get to go the ranch...but can't miss the wedding, don't think they would understand! lol
