I've noticed that the new trend in videos, is to re-release old films (or even make new ones) and leave them "un-rated" so that they can include scenes that aren't allowed in theaters.

My question is this: Isn't that called NC-17 or even Rated X? {rolleyes}

How cowardishly deceaving can they be to not rate a film that would, otherwise, be kept behind a curtain? I suppose this way they can advertise it through the mainstream sources and justify their consumer's conscience.

Are there really people that would never buy an NC-17 film, but have no problem getting the Un-rated version of American Pie?

More than likely Radu. I have never given this subject much thought. How many films out there have done this?

I don't think most "un-rated" DVDs are that much different from the original movie. It is mostly a marketing ploy. I think most of the unrated material is the extras such as deleted scenes, etc.

An unrated movie simply means that the movie was not screened by the MPAA for a rating. It doesn't mean that the movie would have been NC-17 or X.

More than likely Radu. I have never given this subject much thought. How many films out there have done this? I just searched for "unrated" under the DVD section of Amazon.com. There are 244 results, and just looking at the first page - they're not family films. Many times the words "Unrated Version" are censoring out certain body parts.

It also lists related searches as: "nc-17; softcore; uncensored"
