Hi,
I apologize if someone has already asked about this.. but I didn't find it in any threads. Is it necessary to tip someone who brings furniture to my car? Does the rule about a large box (i.e. a TV) apply here? I recently bought patio furniture from a large grocery store (the kind that sells furniture, house wares etc, in addition to food), and a guy got the furniture from the back and brought it to my car. I didn't tip - it didn't even cross my mind - but my friend yelled at me as we were leaving that I should have. I felt terrible.. but I had no idea. Oh, also, this was on the 4th of July.. not sure if I should've tipped b/c it was a holiday. Again, didn't even think of it!!
thanks!

Did the person that brought the furniture to your care seem upset with you? So many stores have different policies. Some allow tips some don't. I probably wouldn't have thought of it either.

Here is what I have found so far on on the tipping site Jim provides.
Bagger at grocery store - Check in advance to see if the store has a no tipping policy. Most have one. If it doesn't, then $1-3 for the bagger and $1-5 for the person who loads your car.
This is a bagger mind you.
And here is about taking furniture to your car:
Delivering a big box like a TV to your car - Nothing. Most stores prohibit employees from receiving tips, and the employee may be subject to discipline for doing so.
Hope that helped.

Thanks Justawoman,
No, I don't think the guy was upset, but I wasn't really paying attention either. My friend just thought it was bad. My sister, who was also in the car and works for a furniture showroom/interior design shop, said when she takes chairs to someone's car, she gets a tip. But, that is also in a rich area of Long Island.. slightly different than the grocery store in Virginia! Thanks for posting Jim's advice.. I hope the one about the TV box applies!
Thanks again!
