I wish this forum had a place to post pictures of ourselves, I sure would like to put faces with some of the friends I have made on here. Maybe James could add a place for that. Would anyone else be interested?

there is a picture in there of a couple and three little boys'....that is Beezwax and I, and our three boys' in front of us. That is also my three boys standing at the side of that racecar.

I'm still looking into it. If I do do it, I would probably just provide a link from here to another site. It would be pretty invisible, unless you looked in the address bar of your browser.

Here are the negatives: Pictures take up a lot of bandwidth, and I don't want to go over my limit at FrappyDoo!. It would also be something where a moderator or myself would have to preview every picture before they got added. The reason I don't allow the [ img ] tag at FrappyDoo! is because people can link to nasty pictures. When FrappyDoo! gets larger, that could be a real problem.

Of course, the postive side is that it is fun, and FrappyDoo! is about having fun.

I heard back from the other board, and what they did is beyond my ability. I'm going to look for some other alternatives. I'll get back to you.

What about linking it to a picture site. Like when I opened up my yahoo account, I then had access to my own yahoo photo album,. Maybe something like that would work?

well that is really not much different than just having the link to our webpages/homepages on our profile.....and would having a link to the pictures override the link to the webpages?
or would there be two seperate links there....one for each?

Well, I don't see how it could cause a big problem, if everyone has to e-mail their pics to you first, Jim, then you can put them into the pictures link...or website. That way if some idiot e-mails you something pornographic, you just don't post it. Of course I guess that is leaving you open to viruses maybe...heck I dunno....I just thought it would be nice.

What I have seen done at other forums is there is an image limit. I think the average limit is about 20K, but I have no idea what kind of space/bandwith limits you have here. {mm} Also, most members are pretty good about helping each other remember the image limits, so it doesn't really take extra work from the mods.

I LOVE the picture idea! I'm a photo freak! Just ask my kids! :) And the dog, and the horses, and the...... nevermind - just take my word for it.

If there is a way to get picts up, it'd be great! IMHO! :)

I think it would probably be best to just put the pictures on your own page, then post the link to the pic on your own...only problem with that is, just what ya'll have been saying...the knuckleheads who want to ruin it for us, may send in porno or something of the sort.
You know what may be a good idea to prevent that....make it where ya have to be a regular-posting member for a certain amount of time, before you are bestowed with the power to post a pic...ya know?
Then we all would have plenty of time to get to know a person first, and then we probably wouldn't hafta worry about the person doing that.
We'll see.

you don't have to own your own website Deb.
there are sites where you can build your very own personal webPages for free. You don't pay a single cent!
You can make a webpage and put whatever pictures you want on there...It's real easy!

There is a list of places to get free websites at www.jamesglewis.com/hosting.htm It's over on the right-hand sidebar. Follow the instructions at the site.

We can't provide links to pictures at user's websites because they could change the picture after we provide the link. If we set it up, we will have people email us the picture, and we'll add it to FrappyDoo.

This is the first time I've been online since Tuesday when I posted that last message....thanks for caring about me, and Karen, I just sent you an e-mail explaining everything...but the good news is, after several days of tears and that terrible cold achy lump in the pit of my stomache,not to mention much worrying and sleepless nights....I think we are going to work things out.

He came back....I was so releived, and he wants to work it out!! :) (he had been staying with his mother)

The weird thing is, and I am sorry Jim, as I know I'm not too good with keeping my posts in the right forum, but I will try to do better after this...but anyway....the weird thing is...

The night he left, I was all in tears, alone, very afraid, and feeling like I had nothing to live for. I thought it was over....I prayed to God to give me the strength I desperately needed at that moment.

Then the phone rang...it said unavailable on the caller ID, and I don't usually answer unavailable calls, as they are usually telemarketers or such, but on an instinct, I picked it up....

A woman said hello Lori, how are you tonight?

I said, Im sorry, Im afraid you have the wrong number...then I said, but I wish I was Lori, I sure could use someone to talk to right now...

I figured she'd just say goodbye, sorry I have the wrong number or something....but instead she said, whats the matter? I then proceeded to cry and tell her about my husband leaving....

turns out, she was from California, was trying to reach her daughter-in-law who lives in Texas, I am in Iowa...and she has her daughter-in-laws number already programed in on her speed dial....but yet she still got the wrong number!!!

She then told me she was a christian and I told her I was too, and she said....this was no accident....it gave me goosebumps, but she was right.

She talked to me for 45 minutes, and afterwards I felt so much better....I know this was God's answer to my prayer...

Thanks for listening to me, and I will try not to post things like this just willy nilly all over the place!!

Back to the pictures, which is what this thread is actually about....I hope you can fix it to where we can e-mail you, Jim, like you said, and send our picture, to be posted somewhere, that would be great!

Well, I've given this a lot of thought and asked some other sites about this feature.

As of yesterday, FrappyDoo! had already used 72% of my allotted bandwidth for the month. We've only been going 3 months, and we are already bumping up against my limit. I know that I'll have to upgrade my hosting plan next month.

I would rather eat up bandwidth with discussions than pictures, so I don't think we will implement this feature. It would also require a good bit of work for which I don't have the time.

At other forums, I've seen someone start his own site and allow members to submit pictures to it. That's always another option.

It was a nice suggestion; it just doesn't fit for FrappyDoo!. Keep them coming though.

The 72% is a double-edged sword. I am excited about the traffic, but I wonder how big it is going to get.

I understand about the pictures, Jim, it's okay....besides, friendship comes from the heart anyway, so who cares what we look like! lol. But maybe sometime down the road we can have someone set up a seperate website we can send our pictures to. It would be nice to see all our new friends. But for now, keep up the good work!! :)

Well I know of a forum that has pictures as an icon for pics...and anyone who wants it on there can have it! It's weird how it works...let me know if you want to ask them! I don't know "communicating with other forums" works!?

It's called Alien Soup...and CP knows about the picture thing there too....

I'm a member of Alien Soup also. Are you talking about the avatars? Their board is UBB (InfoPop). Ours is vBulletin. There is an Avatar hack for vBulletin, but I haven't implemented any hacks.

Version 2.0 for vBulletin will come out in a few months probably. I believe it has the option of using avatars. I haven't decided whether or not I will implement them. I'll have to look at the bandwidth issues. For people with modems, more graphics makes it slow.

You'll notice that I have trimmed a lot of the graphics out of FrappyDoo. Many sites use icons for each of the links I have a the top of the page. To optimize my site, I took 11 graphics out of the header for each page and replaced them with standard text links. I also eliminated the "new thread" icon from a bunch of pages.

Oh okay..that makes sense! I also noticed that things here are a little different from another forum powered by the vBulletin board...Coolsig...they are mostly like this...but a little different...I really don't know about the avartars etc I just know that at the Soup they have some way of adding pictures...although I like the way this is set up...the Soup can be a little confusing..and well a lot of going backwards...

They've made a lot of changes recently at Soup. They must have a programmer who works on it all the time.

I spend most of my time posting, not programming, so FD doesn't have as many changes as other boards.

Yes, I noticed the changes there...the BG color for one was something that I was glad to see...dark BG are terrible on my eyes...well I still think that the picture idea is good when you get the chance and the abilities!! :D

I think that a lot of the success of this board is the fact that the mods and myself are very active. We try to reply to people's posts as quickly as possible. I think our active participation encourages members to post and in turn invite their friends.

I would be more active if it weren't for that crazy job that I have. Of course, without my paycheck, I wouldn't have FrappyDoo either.

I also can't neglect to mention that FrappyDoo owes a great deal of its sucess to blinc. She joined early on, volunteered to moderate, and then started inviting all of her friends. We wouldn't be where we are today without her, and that's why I made her the Frappydoo Adminiroo.

I tend to be rather blunt and to the point. If it weren't for blinc, I might have run off several of my best moderators. Then blinc mercifully gave me a swift kick in the hiney, I apologized, and things turned around.

Oh I'm not too worried about what I look like; I worry about every body on the planet with a computer knowing what I look like and me NOT knowing who knows!
