Because we are all travelling together, my husband and I booked a room at the same hotel as our friends did for our weekend out of town. Now we find out the hotel is a fleabag.

How can we change rooms gracefully if our friends still want to stay there? I don't want to hurt their feelings.

I suggested cancelling our reservation then reserve another hotel on the QT.

Suggestions, anyone? Please help.

I'm not sure there is a good way to handle this, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't change hotels. Just don't cancel the first reservation until you're sure you have the second one.

I would just tell them that you heard of a different hotel and wanted to try it out. Don't wait till you get there to tell them, however, because they may want to change also.

Is it significantly more expensive? They might be willing to change also.

Is it far away? If it isn't, then it shouldn't hamper your plans any. If it is, just go out of your way to make things work for them.

If they are good friends, they should understand.

I guessed I left something out. You asked how to gracefully change hotels. The best way is to be graceful when you tell them. That's why I mentioned saying that you heard of a "different" hotel and wanted to try it out. Different is more gracious than "better."
