{bawling} Now, I know as of yet it's still a rumor, but still. To TEXAS???? OUCH! My dream was to go to an M's/Texas game and sit right behind the batters box and harrass "Punch" cuz - just cuz. :)

Bummer! At least we still have Edgar and Olerud and the gang! I hear we got a new pitcher too - the likes of Kaz! {toothy}

I am a Texas Rangers season ticket owner, and I say, "HOOORAY!!!!!" This is so awesome!

Why the heck did they want to spend that much? That's more than a lot of teams have for their whole payroll!

And all the owners are complaining there's not enough moeny... sheesh.
Now that they've got Ken Caminiti, Rodriguez, and Galarraga, what's gonna happen with Palmeiro, Lamb, Clayton, and Alicea?

Here's what i think: Does the word "Redskins" come to mind? Don't take it personally, but that's my early prediction for the Rangers nest year. Especially since they tend to fade out in August, and Galraraga and Arod, despite their great abilities, tend to fade a little then too. I don't think it will work out. And oh, one more thing? How does that 10-year contract work if he gets hurt? Do they still have to pay him?

He could buy out most countries with his salary! Good grief! Yeah - he does fade a little in August but when he's hot, man is he hot! When he's not, he's not. As for him getting injured - no idea! I think there's a clause in the contracts for things like that. 10 years?!?! That's quite the committment! If he should be traded, he has to go with a larger salary - he'll never make less than that. My goodness, I'm sure glad I'm not going to be held accountable for that kind of money!

Tom Hicks only paid $250 million to buy the entire team and new stadium. LOL!

I don't care how good he is....$252. million is entirely too much money for what he does for a living!!!

Can someone please tell me why athletes make so much money?

i wish someone could tell me too.

I want to say its because the owners are so pig-headed they can't think of anything better to do with it. But the players don't have to take that much. I mean, if i was a pro athlete and really wanted to help my team, i'd take less salary so they could spend some on other good players! I mean who needs that much anyway?

On the other hand, i know a lot of players who donate their whole salry to charity. Sergei Ferderov and Chris Pronger, the reigning NHL MVP, to name a couple. More of them should do that.

It's capitalism. They are paid what they are worth if you consider that what they are worth is what the market will pay. Is that circular enough for you? LOL!

I didn't know players did that.....giving their moneys to charity I mean......that is so nice to do.
and you're right, who needs that much money anyway?! No one could ever spend that much in only one life time anyhow.

Jim....thanks for the explanation! {rolleyes}
LOL

On a seperate baseball note, Fernando Tatis from Saint Louis got traded to Montreal for a few players. Are the expos making a case not to be booted out of the league? I hope so, because it looks like they're going to have some good potential for next season.

NITPICK - He wasn't traded, he signed with another team as a free agent. :D - /NITPICK

He's worth that because he'll help the team make money - atheletes donate tons of money to their causes. Even if I would never spend that much, I could certainly give a lot away, and I'd still WANT it.

I'd like the feeling of knowing any great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great...

...great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great...

...grandchildren I might have will never have to suffer poverty.

I suppose I am a little late on this, but as a Mariner fan who saw many of the historical moments, either in person or on TV, I just have to say this quote from the ESPN article made me LOL.

April 24: The Rangers make their eagerly awaited first trip to Seattle where misty-eyed Mariners fans pack the stadium to show their love and devotion to one of the greatest players in team history. And after cheering Edgar Martinez when the lineups are announced, the fans boo every Rodriguez at-bat.

I have been and continue to be a huge Edgar fan, and I love to see him play.

But I also loved to watch A-Rod. During his first two games at the Kingdome, my friend and I had a sign that said "WELCOME DOME ALEX." We were shown on TV with it. It was a hugh sign. And I still have it at home!

You made it on TV!!! That's so cool.

I'm glad you're still an A-Rod fan. It seems like he ought to be able to take the best deal available and still keep his fans. I'm upset when we lose a player, but never mad at him for leaving. It's no different at my company. I'm upset to lose a good employee, but I don't hold it against them for choosing what they think is better for themselves.

Hey Joe - so who's the guy at every game that yells "EDGAAAAAARRRR!"?

I'm SO ready for the first M's vs. Rangers game! That's the one game I've always wanted to go to - to be a heckler! Sit behind the egotistical and pouty "Punch" and now I can giggle at A-Rod too! :) hehehe Nothing like a woman laughing at a man to make him ..... well, they're probably used to tuning the crowd out - but I can hope! (I know, sorry Ranger fans.)
