I hope we don't go into Libya

The wars are getting me down. I was against the Gulf War, but for the Iraq invasion when Saddam was lying and the sting of 9-11 lingered. But now I just want to get our troops out of these countries which have such different values and are so backward. I have never been for democratizing the world. We can't be the peacemaker all the time, especially given our dismal financial situation.

Opponents say, 'What if we felt like that when Hitler was in power?' All I can say is- that was then, this is now. Others say we have to get in the sand countries for the oil. Why can't we drill responsibly in our own country? Take care of our own first!

If more of our troops could be at home protecting our borders it would make me happy. What can I do to make it happen? Just continue writing my representatives? Or is there some kind of event or organization I can get involved with?

I have heard on the news that given the atrocities done to the Libyan people we may step in. But I also heard reporters asking the people if they want the US to intervene and they say no.

Also, several senators are recommending a no-fly zone over the area too.

I hope we listen to the Libyan people and not go in for the oil or whatever else people are speculating.

At some point you have to just stand back. If we keep going into countries to help them topple their dictatorships, we'll never get out of the Middle East and North Africa. If we go to Libya, then we have to go to Iran and Syria and whatever country is next in line for our help and our aid. As far as battling terrorists, I don't think there is an end. It would be like if our goal was to kill all the rats in the world, they aren't all in one country, they are spread throughout the world just like terrorists and bad guys.

The best we can do is protect our borders and our homeland and keep the terrorists out.
