Please tell me about other forums you have visited and why you like them. BTW, this thread is about forums. Tell me about other great sites (http://marriedadults.net/forum/showthread.php3?threadid=20) and your own sites (http://marriedadults.net/forum/showthread.php3?threadid=19) in those threads.

Most of the forums I have been to are webmaster forums. Somebody must know of some good non-webmaster forums.
Coming soon...

Let's see... Alien Soup, uhm... oh darn, can't remember the names of some of the others right off the bat!
Oh, this one was cute! http://seashell.dune.net/ But I never did quite figure out how to register and such.
This one looked pretty nice too: http://www.familyfirst.com/cgi-bin/members/Ultimate.cgi
Well now that TheCatSite.com forums are active and the site is published, I'm lookinng for other pet forums where I can tell people about it (I'll do that very gently, I promise without spamming any forums). I found forums at women.com and cat fancy (www.animalnetwork.com). I'll let you know about others when I find them.

I belonged to Alien Soup too...not long though.
I also visited three different Nascar forums.
They were so boring!!!

Well I am on my own forum most of the time http://www.were-here.com/forums/index.php
Then I also visit:
http://www.sitepointforums.com/
http://gethighforums.com/bin/Ultimate.cgi
http://www.webmaster-forums.com/
http://forums.gameplay.com/index.php
http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/
http://vbulletin.com/forum/
http://community.cnn.com/
And there are quite a few others, but those are some of my favorites! :)
Your flash forum is awesome!
I'll tell my flash designer to visit it!

Listed in order of how often I post:
http://www.sitepointforums.com
http://www.movieforums.com
http://www.frappydoo.com/forum
http://www.thestands.com
http://www.webmaster-forums.com
http://www.edevboards.com
The first three are the only ones I'm currently a serious "regular" in.

I go to the following regularly, in order of frequency:
http://www.writers-bbs.com
http://www.familylife.com
http://www.author-author.net
http://www.movieforums.com
The first and third ones are writers'/authors' sites, and the second one is a Christian site for discussing marriage, remarriage, parenting, life, etc.
The middle two use Ultimate BB, which looks kinda like this (and movieforums.com), but not as nice or as fast. The first one, oddly enough, is a text-based, "old-fashioned" forum, but it's one of my favorites because the writers there are so upbeat and kind to each other. Amazingly, there's little to no flaming there, UNlike author-author.net and even familylife.com!
I do like the email notification feature of this site (and movieforums.com) -- those other sites don't utilize anything like that, and it can get tedious to go back a million times a day when waiting for an answer to an important question.
Keep up the good work here. I like what I see!

I've also visited AOL's message boards a few times...like two years ago was the last time I was in there though.
those boards are difficult to deal with. I don't like them at all.

Whoa, Karen - you've got my link in your signature. Thanks! You can take it down whenever - I won't get all indignant. :) I guess word of mouth is what keeps that site going.

You don't mind that, do you?
Geez, I didn't even consider that may not appreciate that.
If you want it out of there.....just say the word. I won't take offense.

WHA? Of course I like it there! I wish everyone would link to MovieForums.com :) I guess there are some wackos out there who are oddly offended by people sending potential posters to their message board, but I'm not one of them!
I just meant that I won't mind it when you take it out, seeing as how it's unlikely you'll live out the rest of your days with a MovieForums link following you around. :)

RoadRunner,
The Family Life site has its ups and downs. TWT will tell you all about my comparisons with their using UBB versus what is used here (UBB is so much slower, no email notification, etc.). But beyond that, content-wise sometimes it gets a little hairy over there. Mostly good people, but when you start getting that many professed Christians posting willy-nilly, you're bound to start stepping on toes inadvertently and end up starting little theological flames, which turn into personal flames.
Ugh ... anyway, it seems I found this site just in time. I almost prefer a site that hasn't gotten out of hand (yet, ha ha). No flame wars here that I've seen.
I don't mean to put Family Life down. I've appreciated it and met a lot of good people there. It's just that eventually I think the good people and I have made email friendships and keep in touch better that way than through a gargantuan forum board filled with misunderstandings all the time!
Linda
SitepointForums.Com is one of my favorite forums.
I should really check SitePoint again. I visited them months ago and didn't like the threads I was reading. People were not very helpful or polite. Maybe it was just those threads.
I'm checking out all sorts of cat forums now. It's amazing to see the effect of the technology used on the posts. IMO, Vbulletin is the best in creating a community feeling.

This is the third forum site I've been to, and the only one I still visit. My first one I will not even give the credit of naming, but blinc, karen, and kezzer all know which one I'm talking about. My second one was Alien Soup, but I don't really post there anymore, not since coming here anyway.

Yuppers....this one is the best I have tried. I feel very comfortable here. Like I am with family. That place made me feel uneasy.
One night, I joined the live chat...with other AS members...and OOoohhh Boy!!! The language! My goodness...I was shocked to say the least!
This one is by far....the bestest.

I really like Alien Soup. The people there, for the most part were helpful, funny and smart. The threads usually were pretty interesting and some of the posts really made you stop and think. The only reason I stopped going was because of the language... it made me uncomfortable when more and more rough language started appearing, so I mosied over here and I'm really happy it worked out this way.
No forum can please all of it's members, so I can understand why there are different allowances made at different forums. It's just a matter of personal preference for people to choose the forum they are most comfortable with.

I'm quite attached to SitePointForums.com - I'd been visiting that site for quite awhile, and at this point I've got like 3,500 posts, so it makes sense to keep on talking with the people I know so well, and to help others...and heck: every week or two they answer a question for me, too. :)

Thanks Necrominator - I couldn't save my bookmarks when my drive failed, and I've been trying to remember the other forum I visited that started with "Site"! (Sad when you get old and your memory goes, isn't it?)
I like http://www.winask.com for Windows questions and problems, although it's still quite small.
I also go too the Newbie Club forums - http://www.newbieclub.com as I'm still a newbie myself, and it's nice to feel that I can help others occasionally!

It's nice to read these posts.
What we've created here makes me feel good, and believe me, it is we. We wouldn't feel like a family without everybody, and it wouldn't be any fun at all if members were always cursing and us moderators spent a lot of our time editing posts.
Thanks for helping to make FrappyDoo! a great forum site.
Look what I found -
These are the forums of bigbigsavings.com and they are bigbig forums! You wouldn't believe the size of the thing!
25547 registered members! and dozens of them are online anytime.

Well, James,
With a name like "FrappyDoo!," how could we possibly sit around and curse and get mad at each other? I think you doomed the place to perpetual happytude. :)
FINE with me. Besides a writers' forum I still visit, this is about it for me (and without email notification, I'm not sure how regularly I'd be here).
Thanks for a job well done.

Interesting that you say that blinc.
I actually find the best thing about Alien Soup is how easy-going they are in relation to language. Not that I necessarily swear, but I don't find it offensive. If I had one gripe about FrappyDoo, it'd be that it's a bit overbearing in that regard. But you can't please everyone.
blinc
01-09-2001, 04:33 PM
Well I sure hope it didn't come off sounding like I was condeming the place!! I actually thought most of the people there were pretty nice and I appreciated the time I spent there... it just wasn't for me, as to the language situation. It got to be something that bothered me, on a personal level, if it doesn't bother you that's great! It's our own personal choices as to what we prefer or do not like.
Some of the reasons we may seem rather determined, as to the swearing rules, is located in this thread:
http://frappydoo.com/forum/showthread.php3?threadid=788
But, I'll put a part of it here too, to give you a quick explanation as to why we don't swear here:
"The main reason for this is that we want FrappyDoo to be a family-friendly sight. We want everyone to feel comfortable here, which means that even your grandmother or pastor should feel comfortable reading any post on this forum.
The second reason is that with absolutely no swearing allowed, it avoids any possible confusion as to which words are allowed and which aren't."
I hope that help explains why we do things the way we do. :)

I hang out at my web site a lot because I'm constantly updating it, so I thought I'd plug it here. The site is dedicated to anything people don't like to talk about it person (e.g. religion, politics, etc.). I'm not pulling you away from here, but I do invite you to join the discussion.

I am an enthusiast on www.answerpool.com
It is a moderated question and answer site full of great information. ( homework help, teen issues, computers, health, home and garden, parenting, recipes, and much more)
I used to be a member of Ask Jeeves other people. When Ask got rid of the ask other people forum, Answerpool was started.
This site looks great. This is going to be a fun place to hang out. You have some very creative people here! :)

I just saw this James. Everyone's posts were interesting. I post here all the time now. Well what is all the time for me is when my work week is slow enough to beat my family to the computer. *L* I also post at foolmoon.com. I haven't enjoyed it as much as this site. They take themselves far to seriously. I initially liked at the beginning until I realized they do put up with personal attacks and reading the posts between some of them was like going back to kindergarten. I enjoy their relationship section and health forum. Which you don't have by the way. (hint.... Hint)
I like the name you choose for this site. Frappydoo. I also like the fact that it is basically a christian site. With all that said you make me think of Flanders on the Simpsons. Which is a good thing.

LOL! Don't start telling him it seems like a Christian site, because he'll shut it down; and then I won't have a place to come play.
I like FD because I get tired of the constant flaming that seems to go on at sites that are heavier into debating. Those sites would be better named, www.imrightandyourestupid.com (http://www.imrightandyourestupid.com/).

I also like the fact that it is basically a christian site.Gasp... We're not a Christian site. We're family friendly. There's a big difference. A Christian site would not allow non-Christians as moderators. If it were a Christian site, I would have a doctrinal statement. A Christian site somehow turns every discussion, whether it is about football or politics or economics into a discussion about religion. A Christian site also is full of what I think of as Christian bumper stickers - a verse quoted in every sig.
About five years ago I was a member of a Christian site, and that site was what inspired me to create FrappyDoo. First off, most of the opinions on the site weren't base on Scripture, they were based on that person's own opinions. They poorly represented Christianity. That's why I created the Bible Q&A forum. It is a place where you can ask sincere questions about the Bible and be assured that you will get Biblical answers. Second, I wanted a place where everybody could join and have fun or debate if they wanted, regardless of their religious views.
We actually had a moderator quit several years ago because she thought it was going to be a Christian site, and we had several non-Christian mods. Back then we had a Jew and several agnostics.
Now, does my being a Christian come out in debates? Sure it does. Just like theyeti's not being a Christian comes out in his. That's the way it should be on both sides. Our religous views shape who we are. With all that said you make me think of Flanders on the Simpsons. Which is a good thing.I love the Simpsons. What about me makes you think of Flanders?

Hmmmmmm... you described what I have heard all my life as "Bible Thumpers". Those all well intending so called Christians that know more and it all amounts to nothing and they intend on shooving their doctrine/beliefs down anyone's throat that is crazy enough to give them a moment of their time...... whewwww let me catch my breath.
Familly friendly site........ I agree it is. I retract.
