Tipping a cable tv installer

I read that I don't need to tip cable guys in general, but these guys have been here for at least an hour and they're having to climb up into the attic. It seems like a big job. Is that just part of their normal duties or should I consider tipping? I offered a beverage already. Thanks!

It sounds like normal duties, to me. Tipping would be very polite, and a good way to compensate them for going above and beyond their duties, but it's not your obligation.

Welcome aboard. I'm not sure they're allowed to accept tips. There are too many opportunities for people to ask for free service, etc. A soda would be appreciated, I'm sure.

I once tipped the cable tv guy $50. It was pouring outside and he went on our roof anyway. I was so afraid he was going to fall off the roof.

It wasn't necessary, but I'm sure they really appreciated it. That's just part of their job.

This isn't the same thing, but I used to tip valet parking guys more when it was raining. Then they told me they loved the rain because more people use valet parking when it rains.
