Tipping when using gift certificate

I just got a massage using a gift certificate. I didn't think to tip at the time, but now I'm wondering if I should have. Is it proper to tip when using a gift certificate for a massage? The massage therapist worked out of her home, so she didn't have the overhead associated with a large spa or clinic. I don't want to offend her, so I was thinking about sending a note to apologize, with a tip enclosed. Thoughts?
