Thumbs up R-rated films not as popular

http://www.usatoday.com/money/media/...amily-in_x.htm
Quote:
Of the top 20 films released in 2002, not one was rated R. 8 Mile, the Eminem movie, just missed at No. 21.
This is interesting. PG-13 or PG used to be considered the kiss of death for a movie.

Here are the top movies of 2002
Quote:
1 Spider-Man Sony $403.71
2 Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones Fox $310.13
3 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers New Line $261.66 {estimate}
4 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Warner Bros. $251.99 {estimate}
5 My Big Fat Greek Wedding IFC $228.00 {estimate}
6 Signs Disney $227.54
7 Austin Powers in Goldmember New Line $213.12
8 Men In Black II Sony $190.42
9 Ice Age Fox $176.39
10 Die Another Day MGM/UA $153.82 {estimate}
11 Scooby-Doo Warner Bros. $153.29
12 Lilo & Stitch Disney $145.77
13 XXX Sony $141.20
14 The Santa Clause 2 Disney $138.30 (estimate}

Maybe people's efforts of not watching R rated movies are paying off finally! Got the message Hollywood?!

I didn't help much though because I only saw one movie (Ice Age) on that list plus two others (John Q PG-13 and Jonah G) in the theatres all last year. I have a sad life in the entertainment area I guess. I'm just glad they were all three great movies!

I can't believe that Star Wars outsold LOTR. Is that because of when they came out?

I think this is a good thing. To me it shows that writers are working harder to be clever instead of just being obscene.

One thing that frustrates me is the number of PG-13 movies with "BN" - Brief Nudity. Why not just leave it out entirely. I don't want to look at anybody's butt for 10 seconds.

I've noticed that. There's a bunch of movies out right now where they couldn't resist showing someone's hiney - like it really improves the quality of the movie.

I'll tell you what I'm tired of - the topless bar cliche in cop movies. Gimme a break. Do all cops go to topless bars? I doubt it.

No... now if someone were to invent a topless donut shop, hmmm...

I usually don't pay attention to the ratings that much (I don't go to many movies anyway). Usually I'm either surprised that it's rated R, or surprised that it's not rated R. I don't particularly care what the rating is, either, if it looks interesting i'll go. If not, i won't.

Thumbs down

I hate to say this,but i prefer R rated movies,especially in Action movies...

PG-13 movies generally are too lame and dont have enough UUMMPP to so speak....

Kids today all know and use LANGUAGE so it doesnt do any good showing a PG-13 movie opposed to an R movie like they used to.....
