I could really use a mentor. How do I go about doing this?

It depends upon what kind of mentor you want. Tell us what you are interested in:
  • Career mentor
  • How to be a good spouse (marriage mentor)
  • How to live a balanced life
  • How to live a balanced Christian life
Mentoring is usually done one-on-one. You meet with someone weekly for 1-2 hours. It is typically very informal. The basic idea of being a mentor is not to just teach, but to actually share your life.

There are no set rules. Someone could mentor your by correspondence, email, chat, etc. None of these are as optimal as in person, but they can still be very effective.

Mentoring is also typically male-to-male and female-to-female.

So, what are you looking for? Maybe somebody here can help you.

I am looking for someone who I can share my feelings of loneliness and fear with. I am a new christian and have no doubt that this trip is a spiritual 'test' for me. I don't like always being sad or scared when I talk to my husband and could use someone else to help me figure out how this world works. I have talked to the other students in the group, but since they are not married they don't understand why I e-mail everyday and call my husband as much as possible. I just want someone to talk to. Maybe this isn't a mentor, but it is what I need. My husband is GREAT, but it isn't fair to put all of this on him.

If I remember correctly, you only have about one more month away from your hubby. Mentoring is probably something you would want to look for once you got back.

In the meantime, you can always post your thoughts at MarriedAdults.com and chat with us.
